The difference between being #1 ranked and a champion

I see a lot of people making this misconception here that you have to beat the #1 rank guy to be ranked #1. That is not the case.

Now to be the champion you do have to beat the champion.

But, to be ranked #1 you DO NOT have to beat the #1 ranked guy.

Championships go by to be the man you have to beat the man

    Rankings go by recent resumes.

    Championships and rankings are different.

So it turns out weight divisions rankings are only slightly less subjective than the so-called 'mythical' (lol) P4P rankings?

case in point. baldomir the journeyman beat the "champion" so he became champion but everyone knew he was a complete bum who got lucky the current champ was a spazz. while margarito was ranked number 1 for years cause he had a great resume against top competition. too bad none of the "champions" ever gave him a shot i wonder why? mayorga, spinks, judah, baldomir, mayweather just a coincidence probably.
