Yeah, although to be fair he only did well in round 2 because Katsidis went into cruise control for a few moments and circled around for some reason. Every time Katsidis came at him, Mitchell had zero answers and got pummelled.

His problems were a) he wasn't strong enough for Katsidis, and maybe for the top level at 135 in general

and b) he is a good boxer, but makes some basic errors like backing straight up from an aggressive guy, he needs to get some lateral stuff going.

Mitchell used it well enough against Prescott. Katsidis was just too strong and Mitchell didn't know how to deal with it.

I've been a big supporter of Kevin's from the jump, but I knew this wake-up call was coming as soon as he stepped up, I called it on the forum before, because he's just too hittable - frustrating, because he has the ability to be giving himself a much better chance of success at this level.

Carl Johanneson had him close to being stopped, journeyman Walter Estrada smacked him about -- Mitchell was fortunate to get out of that, and the southpaw excuse was inadequate -- and those were his best opponents prior to Prescott (I'm not sure if Prescott usurps them even). Even against a guy as awkward and limited as Prescott is, I was worried for Kevin, because the kid can crack a bit and I pessimistically feared a costly lapse at some point. But even counting the creditable boxing lesson Mitchell stayed cool to dish out there, I hadn't seen so much improvement in his fights since coming back from his hand injury that I could pick him against the toughest guys at 130 or 135.

How anyone could have given him the edge over Katsidis in predicting this one is beyond me.

Kevin needs the opportunity Amir got in working with a top American trainer, I've been saying that for time on here, because his potential isn't going to be realized without it. Kevin's a fighter whose style is totally reliant on the classic orthodox fundamentals of boxing -- he's not a Haye or a Calzaghe or a Hamed -- and the general coaching standards of orthodox boxing fundamentals in the UK are absolute trash, plain and simple.

Kevin's a lovely kid, I'll be supporting him and wishing him all the best. Warren should stick his neck out for him and send him to a quality coach in the US, because he fed him to the lions tonight when any dumbass knew Mitchell wasn't ready.
