Whatever they paid him, they didn't pay him enough. Ali transcends sport and is a living legend, and it was good for people to see him. Larry Holmes once explained that Don King and alot of other promoters will sometimes invite ex-champs to fights for publicity, to make the bout look a little more important, and you get paid something, because really, you're going to get swamped for autographs and photos, and you've got to stay on your best behavior. So, it's almost like the poster of this thread thought this was some sort of controversy and he was outraged about it. Personally, I wish they'd pay Ali to be ringside at every fight. He is still worth seeing.
