  • Just for the record, Merchant has never claimed to be objective. He has always made his disdain of Floyd very plain for everyone to know.

Well im not talking about those fighters of the 30s and 40s that larry talks about, easy to talk about those fighters who fought like 4 times a month, had many losses and often fought guys that were not trained like today and coming from recent multiple kos...u cant compare those eras to today, but larry M always does that to deceive the listener. Compare this guy Pacquiao to todays boxers, you can see his case is different from everybody almost.

Floyd for 1 went from being a boxer puncher with many kos to being a complete boxer that makes his timing, his accuracy and his defense his main assets (of the many more he has). And he made his transition slowly, adjusting his body with time.

Roberto Duran was the same, he started out knocking guys out to slowly becoming a better boxer going up in weight. As a middleweight he only won by decision if i remember right.

I acknowledged he made excellent points in my 1st post. I jsut thought he could be more balanced.
oh good to know he's a columnist. like i said he's a pacfan more than floyd's so that explains his preference for pac. but aren't we all in this forum bias? we like to talk good things about our fav fighter and it's easier for us to point out negative things about other fighters. but as long as you know how to respect others opinion that's all fine.

Merchant isnt saying that Floyd is wrong for not going through with the fight regardless. He's only asking if he would be willing to throw away $40m in the process.

Why do you think he's asking the question? He has an agenda.

He never stated he wasn't, either.

Sorry man I don't buy that you can't compare fighter of now with fighters of the past men are men no matter when they were born. Plus Manny only knocked out the smaller of the 4 welters he fought. He never hurt Clotty and he landed one a million punches on Oscar and he wasn't even really hurt. And yes Pac was sitting down on his punches when he fought Oscar.

Henry Armstrong was is the closest comparison and you can't use the power excuse with him becasue he was never even a big puncher but he still dominated fighters that were naturally much bigger.

He had no choice but to say some bull****.. sit back and let Oscar take first dibs on it. Oscar after all is the one making your checks.
