Comments Thread For: No Trends, Khan-Malignaggi: A Good Fight On its Own

By Jake Donovan - Here’s a quick fact that most of boxing already knows: there’s only one Ricky Hatton.

Another fact that needs to be addressed: there’s also only one Naseem Hamed.

The sooner this is realized, the sooner we can focus on this weekend’s showdown between Amir Khan and Paulie Malignaggi for what it is – a good fight, in addition to being Khan’s stateside debut.

That’s it. Attempts to align it to any past event will only beg for it to flop in comparison.

Sure, it’s tempting to draw similarities between Khan and Hamed, as several coincidences exist. Both fighters were/are 23 years old when they decided to make their stateside debut. New York City was the chosen location for such occasion, taking on mouthy New York-based former titlists. Both are of Middle Eastern descent but are based out of the United Kingdom and primarily viewed as British fighters. [Click Here To Read More]

It might be interesting, hard to tell what kind of a matchup it will be style wise or which is the better boxer but it still may be a good fight.

Both Khan & Hamed are considered British fighters!!!

What idiot wrote this? They were both born in northern England. What else would they be?

Have you not heard them speak, man? They're as 'Northern' as they come! Try learning a little more about the world, son.

Using your suggestion and referring to Wikipedia (which I did, along with my own encyclopedia at home last night when writing the article), Pakistan is considered part of the Greater Middle East.

According to this map, Pakistan is right on the border of what is considered traditional Middle East:

And in following your lead on arguing semantics - he's British, not South Asian. He was born in Britain, raised in Britain and represented Britain in the Olympics.

Dude!!! Who gives a crap about your comments. WTF is this? A Geographical class or boxing forum? Get real... Getting back to the subject; I think Malignaggi will win this fight. He's fought fierce competition in the past and has proven himself a fighter that has plenty of heart and will to go to the very end.

He's gained more experience and skills. It's a shame that he has no power cause otherwise he would be a handful. I don't why so many people hate on Malignaggi. He makes the sport of boxing entertaining with his crazy antics. And I will always back a New York boxer over an English boxer any day of the week and not because am a native New Yorker myself but I back my countrymen. Later haterz.....
