People know who he is, but that doesn't make them fans.

I'm not saying they dislike him, it's more the fact that most of them don't care about the sport. They know who Khan is the same way they know who any mainstream public figure is.

Ask people who Amir Khan is and most will tell you he's a boxer. Ask when his next fight is and most won't know.

That's true but the same goes for any of the UK boxers.

Hatton with Floyd was big, but the Pac fight wasn't as much and certainly people didn't know the Lazcano fight much

Calzaghe had the same, no one really knew when he was gonna fight other than Kessler and Hopkins perhaps

Boxing isn't a big sport here like football.

Right now, casual fans probably know Haye and Khan the most. Froch not that much

Theres a difference between being known and actually being popular.

Everyone knows who he is because he won Olympic silver, and his first few fights were on terrestrial televison.

His popularity doesnt compare to Hamed or Hattons. I doubt that many brits are going to NY to watch him fight.

There are also a large number of british people who dont like him. Thats why they booed him when he fought Barrera and at the Hatton-Pac weigh-in.

All boxers from Britain seem huge when they appear stateside, it's just that they get a lot of public support. Americans should take note and give their boxers a bit more support.
