So Manny is now a politician, winning office on a feel-good rags-to-riches theme with the aim of helping the poor in his home province.
Does anyone else get the feeling he has no idea what all this really means? How on earth do you forsake the duties of office for 12 weeks to train for a fight? It's a full-time job with massive responsibilities.
I personally can't see a guy with little more than a primary school education lasting long in the hot house of Filipino politics, or politics anywhere. He won't last the full term.
I stand corrected if I'm wrong, but I hope not. If Pacquiao takes to his new job well I'd say we've seen the best of him in the ring. But if somehow you can leave the country and your seat in congress for a quarter of a year to train for a prizefight, and have no-one care too much as to lose your job, and still win against the best fighters in the world... well, that's just unbelievable. Something will eventually have to give.
