he didn't adjust, he just let his hands go. he'd been trying to box but he's not a boxer. it was bad corner advice more than anything.
I still don't understand that decision by p-will's corner, Cintron to me always seemed to be the type of guy that crumbles under pressure which is what Williams is good at. IMHO the Martinez fight made Williams more cautious and fearful of a skilled, fast counterpuncher.

cintron's probably the biggest puncher pwill's fought. i think his corner just wanted him to test the water before they waded in.
maybe you're right about martinez making him cautious but williams just doesn't seem like the type to me.

I believe this ^^^
But it also comes down to seeing a pattern in a fighter. I think the fights with Quintana and Martinez overall shows you how to fight Williams. Cintron to me has never been an overly skilled Boxer, but he was doing things early on in the fight that showed me Ronnie Shields implemented a good game plan and they did their homework. Even with Williams picking up the pace, he still was wide open to get hit and Cintron landed the hardest punch of the fight just seconds before the rope fall.
