If this fight was so easy, why didn't Mayweather take it when it was offered?

Eight million for relatively unknown Margarito or the same if not more money for the lineal welterweight championship of the world? Anyone with a brain would do the same. It would be the same outcome anyway. Floyd boxing his head off but not enough to hurt him, Margarito not fast or skilled enough to really get to Floyd. A shut-out for Mayweather, leaving a lasting impression in boxing people's minds that Margarito is a tough motherfuc*er but a limited rather one dimensional fighter all the same.

Fighting Floyd in 2007 would have sent Margarito's career back into the stone age. He would have gotten a nice payday though.

The feud between him and Arum killed the fight. Floyd agreed to fight Margo for 8M, as long as he could fight Cotto and Hatton (who both planned on moving up to 147) for 10M. Bob Arum only wanted to put up 7M for those fights, which makes no sense because both were undefeated, and much more known than Margo. Cotto was even more popular than Floyd at one point. There is a quite from Bob Arum himself saying Floyd agreed to fight Margo.

Notice how Floyd has never fought a Top Rank fighter since 2006? This is why.
