paul williams rise to the p4p #3 spot, ???????????? i dont see it

paul is supposed to be #3 p4p according to Hbo and hbos sheep

i will tell you his career in a nutshell

i havent put williams in my p4p and with another strange win , i will continue to leave his ass out, its like hbo protects williams so williams can become their next american showcase fighter, lol, hes 6 foot 4 or 5 and cant beat martinez properly(maybe lost to sergio according to many people) and cintron(got a split decision sideshow lost in pauls embarassing victory vs journeyman status cintron), then paul loses to quintana(a welweight journeyman with a horrible chin ), the one victory he does have vs margarito was won by paul in the first 6 rounds but marg proceeded to embarass paul in the next 5 of 6 rounds, williams best win vs wright is a win with little validation cause he fought a wright who was fat and didnt box at all anymore, a garbage version of wright

You are entitled to your opinion. One reason why I try to give the guy the benefit of the doubt though is because he doesn't take long to get back in the ring and he stays pretty active. He's also fought four guys in a row ranked in the top five of their division. Say what you want about Phillips and Wright, but Winky was still in the top five at 160 I think. And Phillips had just beaten Spinks. The better names on his resume above 147 are Martinez and Cintron of course though.

Well, you can't really argue too hard about Williams rising a spot based on his victory over Cintron. It proved nothing, was a freak accident, and shouldn't really have any impact on his pound for pound status- either way; up or down. If you rise one of the guys below him on that top 5 p4p list, based on an upcoming victory that takes place, that's the harsh reality of the type of win Paul got. I can't really put him that highly on my list yet...

I just don't think how somebody could have Williams ahead of Dawson.

Resume wise and skill wise Dawson is better.

So Dawson should be ahead of Williams

But, P4P is all a mythical opinion based ranking anyways so I guess it doesn't matter.

I would have a lot more tolerance for the guy if he fought Middleweights and started calling out Super Middleweights like he's supposed to. He seems more content to call out guys who didn't start out as natural Welter Weights(Yes, yes I know that Paul can make the weight spare me).

I guess he wants that big pay day, but honestly I haven't been that impressed.

Taking the closeness of the fight away, Paul does have a 'W' over the current middleweight champion of the world. That, with his pretty decent record, allows his fans to make an arguement to have him in the top 5 pound for pound.

I agree that it's hard to look at Dawson objectivley and not have him ahead of Paul, but Williams gets the benefit of being able to play in the really populated welterweight division, junior/middleweight - the possible selection of opponents in much better. If Cotto gets past Foreman paul can pop in at 154 and ask to fight him, for instance.

Personally, I probably have Paul rounding out the top 5 - but I like to reevaluate my p4p lists after several of the men have had a big fight. Mosley and Mayweather settled things, Paul just fought- Marquez fights soon but I don't see that elevating him anywhere, etc.

He could not get any of his punches off and looked to be off balance most of the fight. Even his post fight interview showed he did not think that he deserved the win, all stuttering and surprised. That is the same look he had after the Martinez bout.
