He don't need their praises sung to him. He beat the best WW in the world decisively. That's all that matters for Floyd.
Why did mainstream media give Floyd no credit and minimal coverage?

And that is the reason Floyd sells!! WE love to hate him!! We cant wait for him to lose!!! I didnt buy the Mosley fight coz I know he's going to win. 4:1 underdog... that tells u the story. Floyd style of fighting will not sell without his Arrogant persona. Just ask Pernell whitaker. They basically has the same style, but Pee didn't make a quarter of Floyd's Money.Maybe because the image that Floyd has potrayed for himself cannot be stomached by the mainstream media. Dont get me wrong, he's a great boxer, but not all media knows or follows boxing that much. And make no mistake, the image that Floyd created for himself leaves a bad taste to most people..I mean when you potray as a degenerate gambler, a loud talkin' disrespecting ****** then you are bound to offend some people.
Pac might be the same as Floyd behind the scene (you know a ego-maniac) but he packages himself differently compared to Floyd. Simply put his more of a politician type of character with a good life story, and the media eats up on it. He can be package as better product endorser than Floyd as long as he doesnt talk.
So I dont understand why some people here even bother to ask this question. Its not like Floyd didnt ask for it. Its the character that he built for himself. Some people like it, some people dont. But the mainstream media still hasnt caught up with it yet.Comment

Thats also true... Tyson was one badass mother****er but he displayed this attribute both outside and inside the ring in his prime.. So that caught a lot of attention to most mainstream media. I mean seriously most boxing fans probably enjoyed Floyd's last performance. But for those casual fans, they would have preferred seeing KO's compare to a 12 round boxing exhibition match.Last edited by mikemurni; 05-07-2010, 11:22 AM.Comment

At the end of the day hardcore fans won't give floyd credit for beating Pac-man , they'll say he was small...but casual fans and mainsteam media will because they love pac-man..floyd in my opinion knocks him out or freddie will have to throw in the towel.Comment

To be honest , the problem with floyd is that casual watchers think they can beat him..they don't see skill they see boring...when your not knocking people out everyone has something to say..real talkComment

This ^^^^^
You have to understand that "casual" fans mostly don't look at skill alone, they look at the boxer's behaviour inside and outside the ring. Those people are nuthuggers as well, when Floyd said that, Rome prolly was a DH fan of SRR, Ali, or any other fighter, and Floyd's steppin' on his foot LOL.
Put a group of Floyd nuthuggers in a studio and they'll bash Pac no end and exalt Floyd. Same banana, just on the wrong avenue for Floyd stans with ESPN.

So a Lightweight/Junior Welterweight should be fighting big Welterweights and Super welterweights? It's because Floyd's acting scared all the time. He could have fought the younger Mosley instead of Baldo, Corley, Bruselles, Michelle, and JMM. He could have fought Tzsu. He could have fought Margarito, Pwill, Berto instead of fake retirement. When All fans asking for him to fight Pac, He then create a scenario just not to fight Pac. Why??? The Big Money was there!!! There should be no more excuses!!!
Kostya isn't worth Floyd's time.
JMM beat Pacquioa and was schooled by Floyd and easily beaten (save your bull**** excuses that you've read here, I've heard every ******* regurgitate it a million times)
Margarito the 6' 160 pounder who your King Pacquiao hasn't fought?
Berto who has fought at 160 since the beginning of his career?
Give me a break with your bull****, ******* - you're out of your element.
Pacquiao has refused to fight all of those fighters and let's not forget that Manny has only fought fighters that Floyd had already dealt with, and they were a SHELL of their former selves when Pacquiao get his hands on them.
And don't forget - while Manny was putting on a circus side show with Joshua Clottey, Floyd was preparing for a fight with Shane Mosley which turned out to be a MUCH better fight, with MUCH more action, MUCH more entertaining, and he beat him MUCH more convincingly.
If you think Pacquiao would have beat Shane as one sided as Mayweather did, then you're just a ******* and you have no credibility so nobody will take you seriously, outside of the Knights of Ako pa ha ho or whatever you **** call each other.
edit: Oh, and let's not forget, the Shane Mosley that you all call old and washed up, was obviously still sharp enough for Manny to outright DUCK. Straight from the ****roaches mouth "Mosley's too good."
He'd been barking up Pac's tree long before Floyd's and that fight never happened, so save it. He chose to fight Joshua Clottey instead.Comment

Floyd was a 4-1 favorite going into the fight so most people didn't see him as a 'HUGE threat'. The ones that were talking about Mosley being able to win were just hyped up or dont really know boxing. He had a puncher's chance and that was it. You really shouldn't listen to the people that don't know boxing and actually thought Shane was a huge threat. People can't get mad when most others aren't talking about the win being incredible; a few loud people that don't know boxing though Mosley would win and now their shocked. Theres no reason to get annoyed at people or not going crazy for the win when only a few ignorant people thought Floyd would actually lose to Mosley. On Espn they showed highlights of the fight on the night of the fight.
(Floyd got no credit or praise)
But then come Monday on the sports shows
Jim Rome is Burning
PTI
Around the Horn
1st and 10
The topic of the fight was near the end of most of the shows as if this wasnt one of the biggest fight of the year. Most of the writers on the shows I mentioned gave Floyd NO credit for beating Shane. They didnt talk about Floyds masterpiece at all. All they said about the fight was..
"Shane was old"
"Shane stopped fighting"
"Shane hurt Floyd"
"Shane had a long layoff"
"The fight was extremely boring"
"Shane didnt come to fight"
Pretty much discrediting Floyds win...
Not ONE "Floyd looked great beating the NUMBER ONE WELTERWEIGHT" SMH...
Yet before the fight they say, Mosley is a HUGE threat. Mosley is a real WW. Floyds gonna be on his bike.. etc etc.. Then Floyd stands in front of Shane and beats the breaks off of Mosleys ass.. No one mentions that AT ALL of course..Comment

c/sThe media can totally get in people's heads. I was out the other day and a guy who doesn't follow boxing at all, but knows I do, asked me about the Mosley Mayweather fight.
I said it was a shockingly masterful performance by Floyd and that I can't think of anybody that can beat him at the moment.
He then went on to tell me that he thinks Pacquiao would knock him out.
I just said "We'll have to wait and see."
I think it's because Pacquiao is a more likable person to the average person and Floyd isn't. People only see him throwing money around and hear what other people say about him and have never seen him fight.
I do know that Jim Rome is a huge Mayweather fan I would be shocked to hear him say anything bad about him.
Yesterday at my job a co-worker asked me about the fight because he heard it was a lame fight? He said he was out at a club and the DJ announced the fight was over and Floyd won. Then the next day people he knows(they don't like Floyd) kept telling him how bad the performance was from both fighters.
I told him it was a great fight and Floyd showed how he can adapt to a critical situation. If you're a boxing fan first, you'll love what you saw. If you're a Floyd fan, you'll be ecstatic but if you're a fan that wants to see Floyd lose, you'll be disappointed in it.
I really don't understand why espn didn't cover the fight more but it is what it is. They did a good job promoting it but Floyd's peformance should have gotten at least a 2nd or 3rd down debate on ATHComment
