    I'm Nervous For Abner Mares

This is one hell of a step up. You can pretty much call Yonnhy Perez a 122 LBS Paul Williams. This dude has a granite chin and an incredible workrate. He fights all 12 rounds with the same intensity as the second round. He has a solid repertoire of punches: left hook, upper cut, straight rights. He has a sick left upper cut, left hook combo. His jab is not too bad either.

I don't think Mares should try to out**** him straight out the box. I feel the first 4 rounds should be about measuring, testing power, and positioning. If Mares feels strong enough to take the fight straight to Perez after, go for it. But I'm very interested to see the improvements in defense the Mare camp has been working on. We're supposed to be seeing a more aggressive Mares, but with more headmovement and defensive counters.

When is this fight taking place? I got my boy Perez on this one, never been a Mares fan.

and Yonnhy's camp has been great from everything I hear. Watching him spar is a treat the man is literally a machine non stop punching and pressuring.

fight is May 22nd on the undercard of Vazquez Marquez 4

from the sounds of things Mares is ready for this too

should be an epic fight that just might upstage the main event

              That's not a 122 Paul Williams.

According to the stats given right before his fight with Mabuza, he's 5'8 with a 70" reach.

I think the key for Mares is to work the body and take advantage when Perez steps back with is hands down and gravitates towards the ropes.

While he didn't go to the ropes all that often during the Agbeko fight, he did in his fight with Mabuza. Mabuza was able to dig and work the body. I had it even after eight, but starting in round nine, Perez was dropping his hands more and more and backing up with his hands down (he did this as well in the Agbeko fight, and Agbeko caught him a few times. Not as much in the Mabuza fight, though). He started to look a little tired as well. Mabuza was able to time him when he backed up, and land some really nice right hands. However you have to give it to Yonnhy, he was down (on my card at least) and pulled it out of the bag.

If you can nab that fight, watch it. It was one of the better fights of 2009. Despite Mabuza starting to gain momentum in the late rounds, every round was competitive.

I was an instant fan of Perez after he spanked that butt against Abdegko, loved his style, good boxer, likes to ****, throws a lot of punches, hell of a chin, decent handspeend, I think he lacks a bit of pop though but he makes up for it on punch output plus I gotta root for my Colombian brothers.
