The truth about Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    by Cuahutemoc1496

First off I want to say Floyd is an incredible fighter, his speed and skill IMO is unmatched in the world of boxing right now. It's a hard pill for some to swallow because most people cannot separate their personal feelings with objectivity.

Mosley was not an easy fight, I don't care if he is 38 years old. Is he the Mosley in his prime? No, but he is still a very capable fighter and it showed when he had Floyd in trouble in the second round. The thing with Floyd is that it takes him all of a round to figure you out, catch your rhythm and start picking you apart. He did this with surprising ease and showed why he has never lost a fight.

The problems I do have with Floyd is that he has hand picked opponents in the past, some call it smart, others call it cowardly. Personally, I think Floyd actually got lucky with the draw. He came when Oscar, Mosley, Trinidad and all those great fighters at 147 were way past their prime but honestly, I can't blame Floyd for that. Some say he ran from a prime Margarito when he was a terror in the welter weight division, but let's be honest people, would Margarito be nothing more than a punching bag for him? I mean Mosley made him look slow and lethargic, what do you think Floyd would have done for 12 rounds?

I don't like Floyd the man, his mouth is a turn off for me. Floyd the fighter on the other hand is a naturally gifted fighter that is incredible to watch for the boxing purist like myself. I don't care to see a bad man contest and two unskilled drunks beat on each other into a bloody mess, I want to see two masters of the sport battle it out and Floyd honestly made it look easy.

Floyd once said the reason he isn't the biggest sports star in America is because he is black. We all know that is a absurd comment, the truth is, Floyd has crossed the boundary from ****y and charismatic, to obnoxious and annoying. If Floyd allowed himself to be more humble he would be more liked. That's just not Floyd though, maybe it's his ****iness that gives him that strength, that confidence that makes him great in the ring.

All I know is that I don't see anyone beating Floyd, not even Pacquaio. Pacquaio is an all time great in his own right but as the saying goes, a great big man always beats a great small man and I just think that when those two come face to face in the ring, Floyd natural size and strength advantage will be apparent. That's not to say Pacquiao doesn't have a chance, every fighter has a chance as we saw how close Mosley was to ending the fight in the second but with the safe style that Floyd implores, it would be very difficult for Pacquaio to turn this into a brawl or get close enough to make enough exchanges to KO Floyd.

I can't say Floyd is the greatest of all time because that's another argument for another day. I can say that if he keeps winning in dominant fashion like this, he is making a hell of a case for it though....

he doesn't want to be liked he wants to make money

but he is always very sporting after the fight even with guys that bad mouthed him like corrales

i think floyd felt that Arum should have made him a star. when it didn't seem like it was happening the way he wanted he took it upon himself to play the bad guy role and it helps him sell fights

i mean floyd got booed in his pro debut performance as I remember for show boating fans have never really liked him

floyd is a perfectionist in the ring and alot of people don't like perfection they want something tainted because they find it easier to relate to them than someone like floyd or roy jones who are SO gifted that it kind of breeds contempt

thats why people like boxers like Kelly Pavlik blue collar humble guy who has worked hard to get where he is at

some people forget that guys like floyd and roy have worked that hard aswell the fact that they seem to have GOD GIVEN TALENT puts them in a different catergory especially when criticism is flying around

i respect what floyd has done in the ring and the fact that he's doing the very best to provide for his family

all that greater than ali talk. it's just to sell a fight even though he probably really believes it lol

Great read. You should write for Boxingscene bro, better than 60% of the writers...

I always enjoy reading objective/unbiased opinions more now compared to before, specially after NSB became the home of trolls.

I think this is a solid post. By the time Floyd retired, I had already given up on him. I was so fed up with his antics, particularly his refusal to fight Antonio Margarito who I perceived to be a bigger threat and payday than Carlos Baldomir. But Floyd has won me over - first with his testing demands and then by fighting the welter everyone wanted to avoid.

I don't know if this will continue. Truthfully, I don't think he has many more training camps left in him. But one or two more solid wins like this one and he can say whatever the hell he wants and you won't hear a peep from me.

I don't know, American's love a winner. Having faults isn't necessary something that people turn to. Look at Tyson before his fall, people loved him in the boxing world because of his dominance.

Yes of course he was knocking people out and that made a difference, I just think that Floyd doesn't have the personality to carry over to main stream fans.

People like ****y, they don't like arrogant. It's something in human nature that makes it that way.

Like I said, I don't care because I see Floyd the fighter. I just understand why people are turned off by him as a person.

I also think you give him too much credit in thinking he doesn't care about what people think about him. He cares, believe me he cares. He says he fights for checks, but there are times when he lets it slip out and tells you he fights for legacy.

He wants to be considered one of the greatest of all time, he says it all the time. His legacy is very important to him and his family. All you have to do is listen to Roger speak and understand the respect he has for the sport and the history of the sport.

Yes he says things to sell fights but he also is a little self conscience and understands when it's all said and done he wants his name to be mentioned with the greats of the sport.

Good post my man. Start writing more pieces like these. You stated how you felt in a respectful manner and I doubt that you would turn anyone off with this, even his fans.
