NEWSFLASH: Heavyweight bum champion seeks BUM fight

EXCLUSIVE: Vitali seeks fight with Oleg Maskaev!
    By G. Leon

WBC might not approve bout until after Rahman-Barrett!
June 17, 2005 - Sources close to the situation have informed **********.com that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko's wheel of opponents has landed on Oleg Maskaev this week. After mentioning names like Lamon Brewster and James Toney, Team Vitali would now like to face Oleg Maskaev on September 24. However, if Klitschko is to keep his title he will need the WBC"s approval and ********** understands that the Sulaiman clan prefers to see if the winner of Hasim Rahman-Monte Barrett would be able to face Vitali on six weeks notice before approving Klitschko-Maskaev. Klitschko advisor Shelly Finkel was unavailable for immeditate comment. Stay tuned to our front page for all the latest breaking news in the world of boxing. REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (11:00 AM ET)
Come on now, nobody can agree with this fight.

What's sad is that your topic title could have referred to a number of different fighters.

If Vitali ducks Rahman his crediblity as a champion will be destroyed, no matter what anyone tries to say.

It is apparent Vitali is ducking, Rahman OR Monte.

This fight shouldnt even be considered and be thrown out, I am glad the WBC is looking at this as a serious situation. I expect if the WBC says no-no and says Rahman or Monte will be ready in time Vitali will hurt his leg or something. I expect him to be stripped and should have been rightfully so.

....Oleg has been on a roll lately and he did nearly kill Rahman. Plus, Oleg beat Vit in the amateurs supposedly and has been calling him out for a while. Obviously they can't get anything going with Toney or they would have done it. Byrd is still possibly fight Wlad. Brewster is going to fight Krasniqi. I don't see a big problem with Vitali taking this fight while waiting on Rahman/Barret since neither one will be ready by September 24th. In fact, Oleg scares me and I wouldn't want Vitali to fight him because I think he is a real threat with his power. I hope this fight doesn't happen but not for the same reason as you.

Of course, no disrespect meant to Two Guns, he does have a chance of pulling off the win.

I don't even know why Vitali would be ducking these guys. I know a lot of people here are high on Rahman but Vitali, while far from perfect, seems decent enough to at least give him a hard time. I'm sure he would be favoured to win, at any rate.

Plus without going through the winner of this fight there's no way he's going to take on any of the other titleholders and will ocst him millions of dollars in the process. Is he rich enough to turn down all that cash?

...I don't think he is ducking anyone and just trying to stay active before a Rahman/Barrett fight. If the WBC says he can't doit and will be stripped then he won't do it. He is planning on fighting the winner of the R/B fight anyways so how can he be ducking anyone?

his standard of opponents is a joke.

fight valuev, fight peter, fight somebody in the top 20 for crying out loud.

Peter has beaten nobody. Valuev has beaten nobody. At least Oleg holds an impressive KO win over Rahman. It is not the worst fight in the world. I would ideally want to see Vitali fight the other title holders or James Toney but since that seems not a possiblity I dont think this is a bad matchup.
