I guess they are probably just negotiating the fight without permission hoping to get it after the fact. That makes more sense.

No, he isn't. He's much smaller than Valuev. Wlad is a big man, about the same size as Lewis, but he's not a giant.

      Wlad's record:

      http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hum...7035&cat=boxer

Many of his opponents WEIGHED MORE THAN HE DID:

      Thompson
      Rahman
      Austin
      Jefferson
      Moli
      McCline
      Koch
      Shaheed
      Purrity
      Pannell
      Dixon
      LaRosa
      McIntyre
      Botowamungu
      Martin x 2
      Monroe x 2
      Wolfgramme
      G. Williamson
      Maciel

For those 21 fights and a few others Wlad's opponents were bigger than he is. Frans Botha weighed exactly the same. About ten others were very close to the same weight...

Wlad has excellent boxing skills. If size was all that mattered, then the top heavyweights would be Marcellus Brown, Julius Long, Alexander Ustinov, Evgeny Orlov, and Tye Fields. All these men are bigger than Wladimir, but none of them are close to his athleticism.

Lennox Lewis was about the same size as Wlad, in fact had a longer reach at 84" to Wlad's 81" and longer arms 29.5" to Wlad's 26".

It's all good and well for them to enter into negotiations on their own accord, but when Sauerland and Don King are involved in the background, I won't start believing **** until both fighters are back to doing press conferences and staredowns with each other.

And even then, if they actually make it to the ring and the bell sounds, I'll be close to pinching myself - not from the joy of finally witnessing the HW megafight everyone wanted, but that the fight is happening at all considering Haye's now-notorious track record.

4 fights in the space of 2 years...

If it doesn't happen now it never will. I am sure that Haye would prefer to sit on his belt for another year and fight a 40 year old Vitali instead of Wlad.

Right now he is reaping what he has sown. He ran his mouth to get this shot and a bunch of morons got behind him thinking he was actually serious. Now his past actions are putting pressure on him to do something he doesn't want to do.

The sad part about this scenario is that Haye likely will not sign to fight Wlad, will sign to fight another WBA challenger and then spend the next year talking about how he is the savior of the sport.

That raises an interesting and polarising point - would he get any credit for beating Vitali now? There'd likely be the dismissive crowd who'd shoot down such a win as "beating a shot old man", but in the end Vitali has demolished his last 4 opponents without barely losing a round. If Haye KO'ed or UD'ed him now, well... that'd go down in boxing history, surely? It's supposed to be an impossible task.

Wlad is a different story. He's prime, and anyone who beats him now should get automatic credit - more so than Sanders and Brewster. Haye has the chance to create some earth-shattering history, but he needs to be quick. Time's running out, and people ain't buying his **** anymore.

Vitali had a 3 1/2 rest in the middle of the last decade, though, and
is hardly your standard 38 year old fighter. No way is he a "shot old
man" even if someone does beat him (doubtful).

Michael Grant is a huge guy as well -- don't see him doing much.

Size without talent won't get you too far in boxing.

Didn't you read the article? It said that Haye has been given permission by the WBA to fight Wlad.

The British press almost universally rate Vitali as a much tougher opponent for Haye right now than Wlad. I disagree with them, but the fact is, no one gives Haye much chance against either Klitschko, and most people give him much more of a chance against Wlad than against Vitali. So in the unlikely event that he fought and beat Vitali within the next year, anyone who didn't give him credit would be a complete arsehole.

Of course there are a lot of complete arseholes in boxingscene, like the morons who claim that Mayweather shouldn't get any credit for the manner in which he beat Mosley, or the ones who claim that Pacquiao shouldn't get any credit for the manner in which he beat Clottey; but no one with any brains make such ridiculous claims, and no one who does have a brain should worry about what brainless idiots say.
