Cements the winner as the greatest fighter of their era.

Everything Pac does is extra at this point. He already holds records for most lineal titles and most division titles. His legacy is set. PBF has some catching up to do. If he wins, he's in position to match or pass Pac, title fight or not.

These guys have already solidified their "legacies". Its not going to tarnish them if they end up losing to the best fighter in the world. Neither man is a bum if he loses (even on boxingscene).

The one win obviously gives either a great boost.
Pacs basic size and record give him more credit for the win despite both now being the same weightclass.
The biggest factor is the likelihood.
Floyd is favoured by the majority (myself included) due to his reach, skill set, speed and ring generalship. Floyd is just more likely to win as backed up by the early bookie odds.
This means that whilst beating a great fighter and it being great for his reputation a win over Pacqiaou enhances his legacy but doesn't blow it to epic proportions. For Floyd to do that he has to take on fights that everyone sees as huge challenges (PWill and larger fighters who would be favoured to beat him.
Because Pac is overmatched against Floyd in so many factors and is the betting underdog for everyone but the Pac fans a win for him would be legendary and would be quite in keeping with him exceeding expectations time after time (except with Clottey recently).

It's just the way it is. Floyd needs to challenge himself.

That being said if Pac chooses to fight Marg or Cotto (again) he'll be dissappointing me heavily and essentially blowing his last few fights.

With both fighters they need to fight real threats to them and they then get the credit, win or lose.

Think Hagler, Duran, SRL, Hearns or more recently Marquez. They lost fights (mainly only in their toughest challenges) yet they still kept (in fact enhanced) their reputation for greatness.

It's the challenges you face and the manner of facing them that have made all the greatest seem great.

            Woh! Novel!
