Time For The Craziest Question Of All

Great post. Tons of talent from 140 to 154 and they're getting no mainstream play. That's bad for the sport, and after May and Pac retire, boxing might not even be a mainstream mention anymore. Truth is, no superfight will ever "Save" boxing. If the fight happens, a month or two later I'm sure the mainstream media will keep talking about boxing being a dying sport.Comment

I wasnt just speaking for Williams. I even said that I wouldnt be shocked if he got beat. I just brought his name up because he was fighting this weekend and alot of people in the sport think highly of him. His name shouldve been brought up but also with Martinez, Bradley, Alexander, and so on. They arent doing a good job of thatComment

Another reason to put on a strong undercard. If May v. Pac ever happens it will make CRAZY bank. There shouldn't be an excuse to put on a crappy undercard for this one, IMO. They can afford to make some legit fights to support the main event.
Greed will probably win out though and possibly hurt boxing, especially if the fight doesn't live up to the hype. After a while, I think casual fans get turned off when fights don't live up to expectations.
But, also, I think a lot of people, including the media, simply dread the thought of this fight not happening. A lot of fans love to talk about fantasy match ups about who would win between this ATG and that ATG. It sucks balls if these guys don't fight when they easily could and for decades the debates go on and on about what coulda, shoulda happened. I think the media is drooling for the biggest MEGA event in a long time and don't want to see it go by. That's why they're so emphatic in saying they don't to see the fight not happen.Comment

For me, it is basically a thing where the only time I have been asked about it on-air is when I was either doing a Pac or a Floyd fight...I don't exactly mean it is the ONLY fight out there...Im just saying for me, as a boxing fan, that is the one fight that has to happen..its the spotlight fight right now in my eyes...obviously there are other good fights (Bradley-Khan or Bradley-Alexander, etc)...but I'm just pointing out they arent a ripple in the water compared to Mayweather-Pac right now...they don't have the drama and the back story that's come about with the big fight...that's all...Last edited by ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY; 05-13-2010, 08:34 PM.Comment

Nah, I don't think it's bad at all for boxing. You can argue that if it's a snoozefest, it will be bad, but otherwise, I think it would bring more fans. A good fight would possibly turn some casual fans into regular fans.Comment
