I was shakin' in the first round and so was everybody that was there at our boxing party. Everybody got up and were like WTF! Lol. The ropes saved Canelo... but.... he remained calm. Anyhow, slow the kid down! He is only 19!!! Please, don't ruin him like they did to El Feroz! They rushed Fernando Vargas tooooo soon and I'm afraid they might do the same **** to El Canelo.

Even though some Ricans are kinda hating... I still give Cotto his props. He's a warrior. Even though he was taking a lot of shots... the fight was stopped too soon. They should've let them finish the round. Although Cotto was getting hit, he was still moving and didn't seem that hurt... just watched it on Youtube (yes, its there already).

Im going to wait for Canelos next fight before I jump into his band wagon.

El Canelo needs to start fighting ranked & REAL welter weights & jr middle weights instead of this little way blown up light weight..This way the truth will come out & prove he's all hype...Even in notifight.com(a spanish, mainly Mexican boxing website) the Mexicans were criticizing & putting him down & talking about how Televisa(a Mexican T.V network)had blown this kid into into superstar status when actually he's been put in with very soft competition..& Saturday night, even thou his opponent wasn't soft, but had everything against him; for example-Cotto is natural lightweight & the fight was scheduled for 149lbs(jr middle, 3 categories above his normal weight) & Canelo a natural welter came in at 150lbs(1 pound over like if he didn't have enough of an advantage, but nobody said nothing) & add that Canelo had a big reach & height advantage..& in experience, on paper they both had basically the same amount of wins, draws & KO's with the exception that Cotto had 1 defeat(at lightweight) but Canelo claims that his record is wrong & that he actually has 44 fights!(which is more than Cotto!)... Cotto came into the ring looking like an out of shape little 55 gallon drum & yet in the 1st round he almost KO'd el Canelo & threw out the fight even thou Canelo was winning, it was Cotto putting on the pressure & taking the fight to el Canelo & at the end the fight was stopped prematurely to give Canelo a TKO victory...When this kid(Canelo)faces tru opponents he's gonna be taken out..He should go ahead and face another hype up fighter, Julio Cesar Chavez jr for the battle of the hype up fighters..& there were actually talks about this fight happening a while ago, but Canelo's people didn't want him to go up to jr middle to fight Chavez jr so the talks were postponed..Ironically he moved up to that weight to fight a way smaller fighter on Saturday!

Boxrec.com rankings put Canelo on #12 and I think it s just fine... but right now he can beat in a competitive fight anyone from #6 to #11 in the same ranking

                  great fight

I watched the whole card and I think this fight was the best of the night. the mosley vs mayweather fight was entertaining only because each fighter wanted it so badly they were about to streetfight the whole time. but mayweather far outmatched mosley. However the cotto vs alvarez matchup had me excited the whole way through. I never heard of alvarez before but he is very talented. Great fighter, with a lot of style. I think the fight was fair except cotto being out of his weight class, but the whole fight was pretty well balanced up to the final round. They stopped the fight correctly. Cotto was still standing, but most of his weight was on the ropes and the ref looks at the eyes, pupils, and he could see that it was done. Any longer and alvarez would have pulverized him. No reason to get brain damage just to stick it out a couple more minutes.
