hatton and cotto are not defensive fighters...they are always on the offensive. mayweather can fight both offense and defense depending on the situation.

So can Pac.

Hatton comes out guns blazing... Pacquiao fights on the defensive, very much on the back foot. He catches Hatton coming in, hurts him. Immediately switches to offensive mode.

Cotto vs Pac. Pac comes out guns blazing. Cotto tries to box and counter. Pac starts to counter Cotto's jab, uses a tight defense against the ropes to get Cotto to open up more without taking much damage, and then beats him while he is open.

Pac can fight both offense or defense depending on the situation too.

Pacquiao landed a pitiful amount of punches against Clottey? I think you need to rewatch that fight. Don't confuse number of punches landed with connect percentage.

Pacquiao did what he had to do to win every round. The goal is to win the fight, something Pac did without even breaking a sweat. Everyone likes to bring up his bruised eye but the fact is that Pac looked like he could keep going for another 12 rounds after the fight and that he would win every one of those too. Who gives a **** about a bruised eye if you're winning every round and easily dominating the fight hands down?

That fight just showed Pac's versatility. He can be a technical boxer with an extremely high connect % (see the Hatton and Cotto fights) or he can be a high volume puncher and outwork his opponent to an easy 12-0 decision.

That's called versatility.

Just cause he is technical doesn't mean he has to be technical in every fight. A versatile fighter can implement many gamplans. Against Clottey, the best gameplan was to outwork him every round. Last I checked Pac won a shutout.

Pac and roach can make adjustments and out think some of these other guys but PBF is just superior in that regard. Pac leaves himself open for counters and Mayweather will be there to take advantage of that.

They both have good handspeed, it wont be a factor though just as it wasnt a factor in the mosley/may fight. What will matter is PBF's superior reflexes and his defense and technically sound habits. He will be there to counter Pac all night.

dude, wat is this debate about?? pac isnt a defensive fighter, pac is nowhere near as able to adjust as mayweather. most fighters arent, its just a fact. and finally pac is a rhythm fighter. he defense is kinda automatic...roach taught him that rhythem patter which helps him avoid some punches. thing is, mayweather is by far the best at figuring out rhythems. he'll pic pac apart after the first 2 rounds if he doesnt adjust.
