ward's defense wasnt bad or the worst. especially in the first fight with gatti, wards defense was actually pretty good. ward had his hands up protecting his face almost the entire fight, thats y he won. gatti kept punching his hands, forearms and elbows and got tired, ward took advantage and won the fight. so his defense wasnt as bad as u might think.Comment

Ward's defense isn't all that bad.
He's got the 'pillars' happening, and you'd be suprized how many shots he catches on the arms and gloves.
Gatti commented on how difficult it was to get around Ward's "pillars" most of the time.
I think he often took shots to land shots because of how good his chin was.Comment

As for the subject of the thread, no there have been guys with much worse defense than Ward.
Also LaMotta had nowhere near as bad as a defense. Maybe it looked that way when he was fighting SRR, but Robinson was so quick and accurate that he made a lot of opponents look like ****.Comment
