on the real they should've booted chris brown off the stage and put in mariah carey since she was in the crowd... at least we all know she can actually sing live!!
Chris Brown sounds terrible live

Chris sung live and did well, considering the drill (which I wish he'd defied).
Carey would've covered that **** in 1,000,000 layers of gooey, melted marshmallow.Comment

it's true, and too many singers of the national anthem do what i call 'stunt singing', where they go into vocal acrobatics at the end of the last word on every second verse. not out of soul, or feeling the song, just to showcase whatever technical vocal prowness they apparently have.
chris brown, who was flat and off-key to begin with, did it so many times, it was honestly like a parody or comedy sketch about this kind of singing. i remember thinking, i can't believe this is so ridiculous and bad. maybe that cat was just nervous.
but all singers, especially r&b singers, got something to prove with all that vocalizing on a word, these american idol singers, its just useless. Otis Redding had more soul then all of them and never did that **** once!Comment

^not all R&B singers go over the top, hitting high notes for no reason.
Babyface at 50 years old could still sing better than Chris Brown

He was neither flat nor off-key, it was the 'stunt singing' that was objectionable. Hear him straighten out on the song's highest note, though, and he nailed it. Kid has the ability and a sweet tone. They just gotta stop instructing them to go out there and violate this beautiful melody with that wannabe-flashy ad-lib-**** stuff. Chris is scarcely ever that elaborate on his own recordings even, which makes it doubly annoying.
Babyface is great, BTW.Comment
