No way was that happening, Hasegawa was already out on his feet while Montiel was teeing off. The last 3 or 4 uppercuts that Montiel threw actually came up short because the ref was stepping in. If Montiel had landed those + another 3 or 4 before time expired, Hasegawa could have called it a career.

I thought so too. And even if there was the probability that the fight wasn't stopped, i doubt it that Hasegawa's corner would let Hozumi get murdered in round 5.

Props to Montiel, that counterpunch could break any man's jaw. I favored Hasegawa to win but oh well, maybe someother day.

i dont think the stoppage was early at all....but a broken jaw is no argument to say it shoulda been stopped, so all you people making it your point are effin morons......plenty of people have fought with broken jaws........Tarver's was destroyed by Harding......and he still hung in there......

I don't even care about Donaire at this point. Bring on the Perez-Mares winner. And back when this fight was on the table I blamed Montiel for it not happening because I know it was scheduled at one point and that's when Montiel had that weight problem. But now that that's in the past, why isn't Donaire mentioning anything about fighting him now?

Agree. There was no chance that Cole was thinking about a broken jaw when he stopped the fight. He probably was thinking about that wicked uppercut which rocked Hasegawa's head back.
