You might be right, Pacquiao has really immobilized his people though. A few years ago there would never be the type of support for fighters like Donaire or Viloria at least in the states. If you look at fights from the past like Espinoza vs Cesar Soto where the crowd was probably 99% Mexican and Espinoza had to run from the ring because the fans started tossing beer. If that fight happened today it would probably be 60/40 if not 50/50.

every great fighter brings with him thousands of casual boxing fans that may or may not stay as boxing fans once that fighter retires. it just doesn't apply to pacquiao. boxing has always been a man's sport but dela hoya became so popular because as they say he brought in a lot of the opposite sex to boxing. the espinosa-soto rematch was held in el paso texas, that explains why 99% of the crowd were mexicans. their first fight was held in manila in an open park to accomodate more people. the only mexicans in the crowd were the soto entourage. if travelling to the US from the Philippines is as cheap as from Mexico or Puerto Rico i'm sure there will be more pinoy boxing fans watching fights in the US.
