"Caught cold": Why do boxing fans say this?

I think it does apply in certain fights, for example if your not accustomed to the opponents punching power or speed and you get hit and knocked down you get caught cold but as you adapt and know where the opponent is coming from and how they punch what angles they use etc.
And example would be the first round KD's Calzaghe had against Jones and Hopkins. In the first round of both fights Calzaghe unaccustomed to the speed and sneaky right hand of Jones and Hopkins was visibly hurt in both fights but in the rest of the fight he was taking both of these guys punches well and was not hurt at any other point.Comment

There was a 4 month gap in between hence me saying Boxing matches dont have 13 rounds. Those were two different fights.Comment

I thought being caught cold is when you get knocked down before your body has adjusted to your opponents punch power e.g First 1-2 your opponent throws knocks you down but you warm up to the power after and take those 1-2s without getting hurt.Comment
