Boxers usually cut weight, so it's wise for them to be around their fighting weight while in training.......basically, if you weight 180, jump in the sauna and go without water for a few hours, weigh yourself and see how much you weigh if you're curious....but how guys like Joshua Clottey can weigh 147 on Friday and weigh 170 the next day? I have no idea how he does that

You said it. 180 is the minimum you can reach at good shape at 6'1. Kessler was in the mid 180s fight night.

PLEASE READ ITS A GOOD ONE MEANS A LOT TO ME HAHAHA

men.. Let me tell you a story about muself Its a true story that made me a better boxer hahaha

It was a hard lesson but a great one

i think it was like my 4th or 5th fight as an amateur... the scale at my gym was broken, and i just tought i was fit or maybe 1 or 2 pounds over the weight, I was fighting at 64kgs(140lbs) in that tournament, and the fights were always on monday ( this is in mexico ) and the weight in its the same day.

So they fix the scale and bring it to the gym the friday before the fight and I go check my weight I was 72 almost 73 kgs !! Almost like 18lbs above the weight !

But i had to make the weight i have always been very cautios about that, i swear from friday to monday I had a pear and a little bottle of baby food in the whole weekend, no water at all. Runing and runing with the sweat suit, getting inside the car with the sweat suit and blankets and putting the heat at full power, spiting and using laxatives I did everythin! I swear my skin looked different, like really dry and with glitter hahaha ( maybe the minerals of all the sweat )

The day of the fight i was 139 hahaha i overdidit a little bit ( i was younger ) so after the weight in i had like 45 minutes before my fight i had a little water and there I go.

I remember the anouncer said my name like to present me and I did a little like jumping and puttin my hand in the air and i felt disy just by doing that hahaha

First round I go all out trying to end it early and i get my ears boxed even got my first ( and last until now ) standing count, the round ends and i tell my trainer i feel bad really bad he asks me if i wanna quit i said ok 1 more and thats it.. I go out first punch i thro ( of course a sloppy wild punch ) and i hit him right in the face and open a huge gash in the middle of his nose, the ref checks him and stops it.

Wow what a good feeling that was hahaha One of the happiest moments of my life... So if a kid can do that, i am sure elite boxers have all kind of methods to dehydrate and gain the weight back for a big fight

Hope you likes my story... I am a pro now with only 1 fight i debuted this february and won by KO on the second dont bother boxrec ing me it was a very small event in Sonora in mexico so its not there but as soon as i am ill put the link and the fight here.

Hope you liked my story i think I overdid it a little hahaha

The cardio training is very intense. But you have to take into account the type of body you have. Even training and dieting you might not make 168. Take Tyson for example, 5' 11"" and prime boxing weight was 222. Look a Ali Funika, he like 6" and fights at LW. Diet is big but De-hydrating just to make the weight is the most common practice..

most of them dehydrate, believe it or not most pros still use very simple and unhealty solutions like saunas with sweatsuits on and things like that. Thats why they gain so much weight overnight

There are fighters who lose the weight the right way and those who lose it the wrong way. I would never recommend using saunas to lose weight as you can end up really weak because of it and collapse. If you prepare properly you won't need saunas.

I think a good rule is to observe different kind of athletes' physical makeup, for instance long distance runners, football players, etc. From their activities you can observe why there physical make up is the way it is. Obviously if you are running a good 5 or 6 miles a day, like most fighters, your body will start losing weight. Then if you add a proper diet consisting of healthy foods, you have a good recipe for weight loss.

For anyone trying to lose weight I would recommend eating in portions and eating only things which grow naturally on this earth. I believe 75% of weight loss is your food intake while 25% is exercise. Eat ingredient free foods! I am a vegetarian. I have not exercised in a while but I want to start again. I am 5'11 and I weigh 155 lbs. I would like to weigh 150 lbs.
