    How do boxers make weight?

I am 6'1", supposedly the same height as Mikkel Kessler, yet if i were to weigh 168lbs, i'd look like a zombie. I think 180 is the minimum i could reach, in good shape. but Kessler doesn't look small, in fact he looks big at 168, what gives?

They are in training for 8 weeks and watch what hey eat, also they dont look like they do on fight night as they do at they weigh in. At the weigh in they usually look drawn, on fight night Kessler was probably around 185 or so.

intense training + strict diets + starvation/dehydration a few days prior to weigh in = making weight

and maybe throw in a little diuretics for good measure

Yeah its a lot of training. Really strict diets and mad cardio. And when they weigh in its mostly water weight that is lost to. Thats why at the weigh in's they look so skinny ( kind of like your skinnier in the mornings) and then at the night of the fight they re-hydrate and look all big.

nice topic. I have wondered the same thing and have acome up with a couple conclusions.

#1 people are lazy and truly dont understand what their bodies are capable of or what their legitimate optimum weight is.

#2 You truly dont realize how much water weight you can shed if you were put to the test. In one workout I have shed 3-4 pounds. Imagine what you could do with a concentrated effort over several days.

#3 These are people who have conditioning trainers, nutritionists and fulltime 24/7 lives that revolve around boxing and making weight

#4 Motivation-If you were told by your peers that you are awesome at something and have a chance to be elite on a world level think of the motivation that provides. Now throw in money , even though many boxer probably dont make s hit in the beginning, that potential is tangible like an apple on the tree just out of reach.

I do agree with you though it is truly amazing the dedication and sacrifice it must take for some to just make weight.

you could do all that work or you could just rig the scale like gatti-gamache. either way i mean im sure no one would get hurt if you cheated a little.
