OK so I watched the fights this weekend like I always do and saw a couple of things about Angulo and Arreola since they were the attraction that night.
Angulo Stregths:
- I love the way this guy pressures and is patient. He usually gets out boxed in the early rounds and then wears his opponent down. He doesn't panic and stalks his opponent relentlessly.
- He doesn't over extend himself. Those of you who are trainers will understand this. He doesn't have speed but he never reaches and leaves himself wide open. Very disciplined fighter.
- He's a better boxer than people give him credit for. He's a former Mexican Olympian and has nice boxing skills, not great but very good in his fundamentals.
- He hits hard. His punches are "thumping" punches, punishing punches.
Angulo weakness:
- He's slow. There's really no other way to put it, he doesn't have great speed in foot or hand and that would make you think he would have great problems with someone like Martinez or Williams.
- He has almost no head movement. Speed is something you can compensate for if you have good timing and good head movement, he seems to like to stand in front of his opponent way too much.
All in all though, he's a tough fighter, I know there's a comparison to Margarito but I think he's a better boxer than Marg and is still very young and inexperienced. He can go far and be an exciting fighter in the sport.
Arreola:
What can you say about this guy other than, if he refuses to take the sport seriously, he will never achieve his dream. When he pressured Adamek and physically pushed him around, he was winning the fight easily. What prevented him from doing this for 12 rounds was his conditioning.
He could have knocked Adamek out if he would have pressured him but he took 3 rounds off at a time, sad....
I love Arreola's heart and toughness but unless he stops the drinking (which he admitted he does) and stops the eating and really dedicates himself and get's into serious shape, he will never beat the elites in the sport.
