From a casual fan's perspective I think Manny was getting such a popularity boost because the last few fights of his were the sort you couldn't miss; DLH gets his ass beat and people who didn't buy into Pacquiao go 'wow, that's impressive'. Most of them watch Hatton and go, "Damn. He's a beast." Their friends find out what an ass-whooping they missed, start watching highlights and then their on the Manny Express.
The most people tune in for his Cotto beat-down, and now everyone is sold that Manny Pacquiao is a terminator robot, a little beast of a man- and he's sailing on the momentum of, 'you can't afford to miss any of my fights'.
Basically, Clottey-Pacquiao was- and this is all from a mainstream casual fan perspective- a fight you could absolutely afford to miss; and that popped the Pacquiao bubble of people who had become fans of his within the last three fights.
Now he's just a boxer. Even if these casual fans thinks he's good, they look at him not steam-rolling Clottey in a battle, and think of undefeated Mayweather, who they know is undefeated- so he must be good, right?- and suddenly Floyd is looking a little better.
Plus that fight falling apart over testing...
I think Floyd is pulling out a media battle over Manny in a lot of casual boxing fan's; we'll see if it continues based on Floyd's upcoming performance.Comment

Not at all. Pac did his part to make it an exciting win. Clottey's the one who lost a lotta respect from boxing fans for not trying to win in an important fight.Comment
