Also, a lot of people are just saying movement, movement, movement. To me, a truly slick fighter maximizes his efficiency, moving as little as possible to the greatest effect. See Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins (not so much slick as just absurdly skilled) and James Toney. Pernell Whitaker bounced around too much for me to think he was as slick as those two (Mayweather and Toney). Better, yes, but not as slick.

      Agree 100%.

Today I was comparing Joel Casamayor to Sergio Martinez. Of course two different southpaws; not far off though. But Joel Casamayor doesn't waste movement and sets up his punches alot better. Just that I see so much wasted motion from Sergio, and very little countering. I'm not saying Sergio should do everything at the very minimal but you can't go and expand the sort of energy Martinez does, someone might exploit that one day.

well slick doesn't necessarily mean better. You can have a slick fighter who has a worse defense than someone who isn't slick at all. Its just a style.

Look at Winky Wright. Great defense, not very slick. Hopkins has great defense too, not that slick though (he can be sometimes but its not his MO).

when i think of slick, i think in terms of defense. to me, a fighter that mostly uses his feet, head, and upper body movement to slip and duck punches for defense is a slick fighter. they rarely use their arms to block.

          slick fighters: malignaggi, dirrell, mayweather
non slick fighters: diaz, abraham, clottey

Precisely. He looks like a less funky Emmanuel Augustus. Bouncing around like that is pointless. He can stay on his toes without wasting all that energy. I know he's got a lot of stamina, but there are better ways he can spend it.

Yeah man. Although I see very very few beating him at 154/ 160. Martinez has alot of improving to do; alot.

Hopkins, mayweather, Toney. Shoulderolling, defensive masters who make their opponents miss and pay.

So I guess slickness can = a mastery of space and movement, though I'm sure different people would have different things too add to that. Appeciate everyone's input.
