How do you officially count/define Chad Dawson's Title Defenses?

He had three WBC Title defenses after he won it against Adamek.

Vacated the WBC Title

Then won the IBF Title against Tarver and made one IBF title defense Vs Tarver again.

Vacated the IBF Title

And fought for the Interim WBC title against Glen Johnson and is about to fight for the WBC title against Jean Pascal.

How do you define this? Do you hold them as seperate title runs or did his title run start after he defeated Adamek and therefore he has made 6 Title defenses overall.

That makes sense. That means you take the two-different title reigns approach.

Personally, I see it as him having won the WBC title against Adamek, fought 6 more title fights (including the vacant and Interim-title fights) after that without losing, which to me is 6 title defenses.

Just in case he goes on a historic Hopkins-esque title run.

I just wish he would fight more. He's fighting at a Tarver clip.

He's a local favorite of mine and it'd be nice if he fought more than twice a year. I don't know why he could have fought in say February or March.

Which way are you looking at it? Two seperate title reigns or are you adding up both the IBF and WBC title reigns as one???


If it's the latter, than it's 6 defenses starting after the win against Adamek.

But how can you count a title defense when he doesnt have that title, thats like saying Floyd has 22 title defenses since he beat Hernandez, just because he's never lost.

Or you view it as one SINGLE title reign and you add up all his title fights. Now if you add them up, it equals to 6 title defenses. It can't be 4.

But he was fighting for the title in the first Tarver fight and fighting for the interim title in the second Johnson fight, since he didnt have those titles at the time, they cant be defenses, because he wasnt defending anything.
