Comments Thread For: Mayweather: "I Did Not Want To Fight For The WBA Title"

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is sticking true to his infamous statement - "all belts do is collect dust." BoxingScene.com reported on Tuesday that Mayweather's bout with WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley, on May 1 in Las Vegas, will be a non-title fight. Mosley wanted to defend his title. Mayweather had no interest in the title. When asked as to why, Mayweather didn't mention the sanctioning fee. [Click Here To Read More]

Sounds reasonable to me. I just wonder what will happen to the belt if Mayweather wins. Will Mosley remain the champ, or will it just become vacant? If it becomes vacant, then I don't even wanna know whose gonna fight for it. It can't be anyone good.

who cares about the WBA title...lol..only up and comers fight for belts. Really they dont want the belt because then they have to pay sanctioning fee's and have mandatory title defenses. Floyd has already won the WBC belt in 5 different weight classes. In 50 years nobody will care if they fought for the WBA title, people will only care about who won.

            Belts and money

How come all of the sudden boxing are all for money now. What a legacy to build up. Of course money plays a lot. Takes money to pay for expenses but If all boxer will focus on money like Floyd, why not fight to death and winner takes all. Belt is a memorable remembrance of all the hard works on training, after all of money has been spent.

Did he not fight for the WBA belt when Baldomir beat Judah and the WBA stripped Baldomir so Judah could fight Mayweather for a title?

he was trying to become a WW champ and win a title @ his 4th weight class, now what does the belt mean? Nothing!!..Just to pay sanctioning fee's and say "look i got a belt"...lol
