Ironic someone mentioning Bute's resume being underwhelming in this particular thread.

In Oakland I'd give Ward the benefit of the doubt. In Canada however the referee won't let Ward come in so close with his head setting up for some clean combinations and outside counter punching opportunities for Bute. In Oakland Ward UD, but in Canada Bute mid to late KO.

if it's in a neutral place, bute by close ud. ward's got a little bit more precise jab, but i'd give the nod to bute on every other punch in the speed/power/accuracy dept.

nothing against ward though, you use what you can, but i think the man needs those headbutts.

Nobody beats Ward in Oakland. Bute's face will fall apart from several uncautioned flying headbutts and Ward will get the TKO.

Ward UD, I think Bute could be the most overated fighter around today. Wins against Andrade and Miranda do not make you the top SMW imo, Froch has a better resume than Bute and a lot of people consider him only the 4th or 5th best fighter in the Super Six.

Bute has beaten Berrio and Bika too, 2 good wins you didn't mention, and he beat all of them convincingly, whereas Froch has stuggled against all world class fighters he has faced, Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell, and saturday, he's getting KTFO.

Only one man can dispute the no 1 spot with Bute, and it is the last man standing when the Super six is over. Meanwhile, Bute is no 1.

That's what I think too. Ward's sometimes reckless offense when he comes in would work in Bute's favor, Kessler was tagging Ward with some good hooks as he was coming in. So I pick Bute by KO.

Seriously, it would be a good match-up and I find it difficult to predict a winner. I have to take issue with the TS calling Bute an 'elite super-middleweight' though. Bute is yet to beat anyone above C-level.
