So Sturm keeps his title but then why do we have this vacant title fight?

The WBA is the worst organization because when they elevate a champion to "super champion" (which is only to be done in the case of a unification, or whenever the WBA feels like breaking their own rules... like this wonderful situation), they create a regular WBA championship.

It's the most laughable of all belts. How can you call yourself a world champion when the organization that identifies you as such doesn't even have you ranked as the best fighter in the division?

sturm was released from universum last november but universum is still saying he's under contract til 2012.
sturm expects to win his court battle with universum and return to the ring...possibly in the US for his next bout in the fall.

sturm's status is tentative at best and the WBA needs a champ so they can collect their fees.


also, golovkin will beat mundine's ass. i thought he'd be champ, but not like this. he hasnt done anything to deserve a shot.

Thank you. I always rated Sturm, And was wondering what was up with him not fighting for a while (He usually fights every 4-5 months) plus the whole dispute with Universum seemed abit weird. So his status as Champion is still there until the fight with Mundine and Golovkin gets signed (No guarentee with Mundine). I heard Sturm didnt want to fight Golovkin until this dispute with Universum got sorted. I hope he keeps the belt though

It's another fake title for another paper champ. Twice now have the WBA done this for Mundine, who is yet to win a major title from a recognised champ, but still calls himself a two division 3-time world champion. This sport is ****ed..

Golovkin is very talented.

In the amateurs, he had wins over Andy Lee, Matt Korobov, John Duddy, Lucian Bute and of course Andre Dirrell in the 2004 Olympics.

Yeah iv'e heard a few people mention that. Good names no doubt but the amatuer and pro experiences are a totally different game. Sven Ottke (A pretty good but not great undefeated German fighter), He held amatuer wins over Antonio Tarver, Chris Byrd, Michael Moorer, Zsolt Erdei and Juan Carlos Gomez but lost to alot of amatuer fighters who ended up doing nothing in the pro ranks.

Golovkin seems like a good fighter, I would proberbly favour him to beat Mundine if the fight goes ahead. I mean Mundine has pulled out of so many fights we can't believe it until it happens. But we'll see, This is a pick-em fight for me. Mundine could take it but we'll see what happens.

I'd have rather seen Golovkin vs Sturm but things are still unresolved with him right now.
