what a minute. so if floyd would've been faster and more mobile if he was lighter, then why didn't he fight at the contracted weight of 144 lbs? sounds fishy.Floyd was making Marquez miss by ducking UNDER Dinamita's punches. And then countering.
That is essentially the textbook definition of outskilling somebody.
At 135, Floyd would have been so much faster and more mobile and the gap would have been even wider.
Floyd beats Marquez ten times out of ten. At any weight.
...and I'm a big Marquez fan.Comment

Exactly. He got punished 600 thousand dollars for failing to make weight, and these people talk about the fight being at 135. Why wouldn't he weigh himself on fight night if the size difference had nothing to do with it? Even then, when Floyd was at 135 he got manhandled by Jose Luis Castillo.Comment

You're pretty astute on your observation, and in addition, you can't expect an older Marquez to be faster and sharper when he went up 2 weight levels up. It's obvious that Marquez was not comfortable on welterweight level. I respect Mayweather's skills but he didn't really show much against an older and heavier Marquez. On top of that, Mayweather didn't have to lose so many pounds, thus, made him a lot stronger come fight night.Comment

Great post but if Mayweather didn't have to lose so many pounds why didn't he make the contract-obligated 144 limit? Why did he pay $600,000 to weigh two pounds extra? And why didn't he weigh himself on fight night? You're pretty astute on your observation, and in addition, you can't expect an older Marquez to be faster and sharper when he went up 2 weight levels up. He wasn't afraid to engage, the dude said that he need rounds.
"I wanted to get in the rounds and I needed the work. I had to box smart the whole night. I am really glad to be back in boxing. I needed rounds."Comment

Mayweather was already around 147 pounds days before the weigh in and when he purposely decided to come in at 146, he didn't have to sweat or exhaust so much energy to drain few pounds. Losing even a pound close to fight night takes so much out of the fighter. I was expecting Mayweather to knock out a slower, weaker and older Marquez. I was surprised he couldn't.Comment

he also said in 24/7 that he wanted a KO.He wasn't afraid to engage, the dude said that he need rounds.

Knowing how Mayweather is, he would have loved to knock Marquez out to bolster his claim that he's better than the little Filipino. You don't always have to listen to Floyd to know what he wants, just understand how he is.Comment
