not much credit. both lewis and calzaghe just wanted the name on their resume, not the credit.
How much credit does Lennox Lewis get for his win over tyson?

You mean the same old Larry Holmes who went on to school Ray Mercer who went on to kick Lennox Lewis' butt before he got a gift decision from the judges? You mean the stiff Frank Bruno who beat Oliver McCall that knocked the hell out of Lennox Lewis? Lewis was a good fighter, but his resume is overrated. In fact, I don't really see it as being much better than Tyson's to be honest. Other than a lucky stoppage against Vitali, who was ahead on all scorecards as well as on the verge of knocking Lewis out, Lennox never beat a great fighter in his prime. Not saying that it was his fault as he fought all comers, but his resume is overrated imo.Cus died before Tyson won the title. The heaveyweight division when Tyson was at his best ****** ! Old Larry Holmes, small micheal spinks, Fat tony tubbs, stoned pinklon thomas, scared bonecrusher smith & a stiff frank bruno. Tony Tucker gave him a hell of a fight but who was he ? Lewis would have taken Tyson at any point.Comment

Took him 8 rounds to dispose of a man that was openly referred to as a shell of himself, while he gets some credit for it, it's not that much IMO. I gave him way more for his performance against Vitali. Lewis showed the heart of a champion in that fight. The Tyson fight was in a weird way, a showcase of how much Mike can take. Mike showed me alot of heart, he could have quit and didn't and just like his nickname took that beating like The Baddest Man on the planet would, Mike kept trying to channel his old self throughout, he took that beating and was trying to still load up a shots late in the fight and despite being beat very badly still stood back up at the end. As a Tyson fan I was strangely proud of him for continuing to put forth an effort in the face of certain defeat. I'm weird like that because i was just as happy with Roy Jones Jr in the third Tarver fight. I hated seeing them lose but I was proud as a fan of both for not quitting and still doing what they could to try to be Mike Tyson or Roy Jones one last time. I dunno props to Lewis but i think he showed more heart of a champion in other fights and Tyson was just a name to put on the resume.Last edited by j.one; 04-20-2010, 12:09 AM.Comment

Tyson or Holyfield wouldn't beat the Tyson who fought Berbick, Holmes, Spinks etc.Comment

Fair comment, i think if we are all honest about it the heaveyweight division has not been that great since the 70's.You mean the same old Larry Holmes who went on to school Ray Mercer who went on to kick Lennox Lewis' butt before he got a gift decision from the judges? Totally agree, BUT I do think the 90's had potential to be just as great, but didn't live up to expectations for various reasons. I mean you had Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, Foreman, Tua, Golota, Ibeabuchi, Moorer, Morrison, and a few others. However for various reasons, none of those guys lived up to their potential except Holyfield and Lewis. The 90's may very well have been a lost golden era for that division.Comment
