Cut or no cuts, Kelly was not going to win that fight.

remember though it's kelly manager who's blaming the cut man, not kelly. did you see kelly's interview after the fight? not in the ring, but boxingscene's interview...kelly was a man about it and gave all credit to sergio. he's a genuine and tough kid. respect for kelly either way.

There is some truth to this article.Though Pavlik lost and was cut from the first round, the cutman could have done a better job.I believe Pavlik would have made it closer (keep in mind I predicted Martinez to win) and possibly have won.

This is a perfect reason to hire the best in the business. Pavlik has to think about his career more than giving these guys jobs.If there is a rematch,I think Kelly would have a much better chance of winning, because before the cut,I had him 1 point ahead....he was adapting and outboxing Sergio.
He needs to grab a rematch, win the belts back and face Paul Williams for a classic fight.Like him or not,Pavlik has given us some good fights over the years (just not last year)....

Pavlik lost because Martinez changed strategy and opened the cut, he didn't loose merely because the cut happend...the fight changed before the cut.

Uhhhhh... Was the cut-man the one who didn't move out of the way of the flush punches that Martiez was landing all night to open the cuts????

Start with the cutman and then work all the way up through the corner. None of those guys did Kelly any good, they didn't learn anything from the Bernard loss. I started a thread earlier complaining about the cut man, but his corner offered him nothing, and i would have gotten rid of them right after the Bernard fight when they gave him no advice and just comforted him in the fact that he wouldn't lose his titles in that fight.

I keep forgetting to do that, Sergio put on a great performance and the guy really deserved that win. Martinez is an excellent fighter, its just that pavliks corner was so bad that (in my mind) it overshadows Martinez's brilliance in that fight.

Then why was the cutman on their corner? Blame it on the guy that hired him.

All I know is Pavlik has more class than his trainer. Pavlik is not making excuses like his trainer is doing.
