And I guess you could kinda say that this thread is taking a shot at Dawson and Dirrell and I should've mentioned Floyd too. I don't think Dawson is unwatchable like Dirrell is but his style doesn't really excite me either.
Sergio Martinez showed Dawson and Dirrell how it's done last night.

Cool! My favorite boxing movie of all time.I went to the University of Texas's museum 2 weeks ago and they had an exhibit showing items from a lot of Robert Dinero's movies. One of those movies was Raging Bull. They had the original scripts, gloves dinero used, head shots, the prosthetic nose with pictures of the application of it, pictures from the set, Dinero and Lamotta. Pretty cool stuff.Comment

Larry Merchant sounded like an MMA fan last night when he said something about Martinez riding a bicycle.Comment

I did. Not only did I pick Martinez but have always said Pavlik's robotic style can't handle skilled boxers like Martinez. This was no shock to me. And when you think about it, what top fighters has Pavlik been beating since the Taylor fights? And that was years ago. Those fights overrated him because he milked it by avoiding the real top competition(Abraham and then Williams). It caught up with him by facing an elite fighter last night. Some people excused his loss to Hopkins with the size excuse. I don't buy it. Pavlik is really too big for 160. But there are no excuses to reach for after losing at 160.Nobody's perceiving this...it's just that no one expected him to move up in weight and do this to the MW champ. I was impressed w/ his performance but I wouldn't throw him in the top 10 p4p. Hopkins is Hopkins, he has the potential to "put a stamp" on any fighter he faces.Last edited by Calilloyd; 04-18-2010, 01:22 PM.Comment

You're entitled to your preferences but I don't see any justification in saying any of these styles (including Martinez) is any more exciting than the other. If you like him (Martinez) better as a fighter, that's one thing. To say his style is more exciting is contradicting.Comment

For the remainder of Kelly's career, I don't see him beating a top fighter. I hate to see him even move up to 168lbs because that's danger zone for him.Comment
