Gerald McClellan was Ring Magazine's number one Middleweight in 1993 and 1994, Roy Jones was number two, McClellan was number one. (McClellan defeated Jones Jr at the 1988 Golden Gloves, by the way).

Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Frankie Liles were all World Champions at Super-Middleweight when Roy Jones was at Super-Middleweight, Roy Jones fought none of them. Roy Jones defended his IBF Super-Middleweight title five times - three of which weren't even ranked in the top 10, the other was a 'blown-up' Lightweight, and the only Super-Middleweight challenger of Jones' who was even ranked in the top 10 was Bryant Brannon who was Jones' mandatory at the time (Bryant who?? LOL!).

We all know that Jones Jr stayed well clear of Dariusz Michalczewski for years and years at Light-Heavyweight, Michalczewski was undefeated World Champion at Light-Heavy at the same time that Jones Jr was at that weight.
All of the above is true and I will add this.....AGAIN:

For the people who claim his losses don't mean as much because of his age, etc.
Both guys that beat that "past prime" Roid were older than him!
    That **** don't fly!

Holyfield? No better rated than he is now, he made a name for himself by beating up a fallen-apart legend. But one of the top 15 HW's of all-time? No way!
Wow, i must admit. This is easily the worst post I have ever seen.

I am not even an RJJ fan & later in his career he did duck alot of people, but early he fought & beat guys like Hopkins, Toney, Griffin & at light heavy Hill & Johnson. I was young then & I remember some of the guys you mentioned as great fighters ( McLellan & Liles especially), but lets face it Toney & Hopkins are two of this eras greats & in my & alot peoples opinions better fighters than any you mentioned him ducking. As far as Michalczewski, who cares? Jones would have beat him easily. **** Julio Gonzalez I believe beat him. I see your point that he didn't fight all comers, but who really does. In any fighters career you can pick out guys that that were good fighters that they never got it on with. Jones maybe more than others, but he in his prime was electric & I still believe he is top 10 maybe 5 all-time greats at Middle especially.

If this happened would we be talking about Roy as top two or three pound 4 pounders of all time and Evander as top 2 or 3 heavyweights of all time? I think so.. Bad timing ****s alot of things up
rrj perhaps yes, holyfield not really although respected a lot more........

holyfield at that time had not yet challenged the other top h/w at that time.....then he did and got his ass kicked.....

I wonder if Roy Jones would have done things differently if he'd known people would never take his career seriously after, because the fight ducking he did.

I'm not sure he would have taken on the best guys anyway.

I'm not sure he ever really enjoyed fighting, he just did it because he was good at it, and he didn't want to put himself in a position where he might take a beating.

exactly dude....i think you're the first person i've heard say that, cause i always felt like holyfield won the 2nd fight....it's just theres no way he was winning it unless he scored a knockout, cause everybody was gunnin for him after the first fight...but i remember sayin to everybody that holyfield got jobbed and they thought i was nuts...but i'll always believe he won that fight

They were slightly older than him but.... roy jones' style was based mainly on speed and reflexes. these are the things that decline first as a fighter ages. So it is still possible for him to have declined due to age before another fighter who was older than him.
