Thompson should now fight someone like WBO #2 David Tua or IBF #2 Sam Peter to line himself up with another world title shot.

Is he ranked by the WBC? Personally, I`d like him to fight Vitali.

I wonder if Wlad would have a better gameplan against him this time, if they had a rematch. He really struggled for those 11 rounds.

Yes, that would be an interesting fight. He's ranked WBC #14.

Thompson is underrated and would be a difficult opponent for anyone. He's very strong and has an awkward southpaw style. Tony has longer arms even than Wladimir, 29" to Wlad's 26".

no problem for Thompson.beck looked really out of shape.he was a late replacement & it showed.estrada would have been a better fight.I did notice beck had tree trunks for calves.he attempted to make fights with solis, peter,& arreola but nothing came of it.he's a threat still & may have another title shot if he can win a few more big fights.unfortunately I can't see any of the champions giving him a voluntary shot at a title.he'll have to win eliminators.he's not the first opponent any contender wants to fight.

A couple of problems with this story....

                1) Barry Hunter trained Tony Thompson for one fight; the Klitschko fight. He didn't train Thompson last night and outside of that one fight has never been the primary trainer for Thompson.

                2) Owen Beck has ocular implants in his eyes. This is why the New York State Athletic Commission has suspended his boxing license. The suspension calls for other states to call NY to get clarification on the suspension. It is not an ABC suspension that binds all states and NY states this as well. The state of TN has nothing in their regulations that disallows a boxer to participate due to ocular implants and could not legally suspend Beck from competing. Nevada would have allowed Beck to fight as well. As would have 43 other state boxing commissions. Therefore, it is poor journalism to bash the State of Tennessee for this. If you want to state that Beck was out of shape and sloppy and that their were better guys to choose from other than Beck that is one thing. But if that is the case name me a heavyweight that would have taken that fight on 2 weeks notice for ESPN type money. I think you just are trumpeting Teddy Atlas's drama filled rants.

I just watched the fight and not overly impressed with Thompson. Because Owen Beck was so outmatched, Thompson looked lackadaisical at times and he was telegraphing his punches. Thompson needs a good opponent to bring the best out of him...
