I think Stewart is actually working mentally with Cotto and trying to gain his trust as a trainer. Not to mention that he is also working on Cotto's confidence.
I'm pretty sure that Stewart is not thinking at all in Pacman, but he want's to have Cotto beleive in himself and in his Corner once again. The Pacman comment is also and extra motivation from Stewart to make sure that Cotto doesn't take Foreman lightly and trains as if his career is on the line, because it very well might be if he loses.
I do think that Stewart can improve Cotto's defense and balance but I'm not sure that a boxer at this stage (almost 30) can improve his speed. Stewart can probably work on Cotto's stamina to sustain his speed and punch activity for a longer period of time during the fight but improve his speed, I have never seen that at any boxer at 29 years. I might be wrong though.
If we take Pacmanm for example, he has the same speed that he had years ago, but he has added punching power to that speed.
If Stewart can improve Cotto's defense and stamina, then Cotto has a better chance to be who he was because, not get hit as much and better stamina, will result in more power punches and damage to his opponenst in later rounds. Pacman himself said that Cotto was hurting him but he had to act like he was not getting hurt to discourage Cotto.
Bottom line is that Cotto need to take care of Foreman and then think of his next opponent, but Stewart is mentaly working with Cotto as this could be the fight that sets up his future, rather then going intio the ring as the fight that can end his career.
