Thanks at least for putting up my forum name there LOL.
Huh? You act like Im flaming or something. Im saying that we might be talking about two different punches.

Wiki describes the Bolo punch as this:

"Its most important aspect is a circular motion performed with one arm to distract an opponent, causing the opponent to either take his eyes off the attacker's other arm or actually focus on the fighter's circling arm. When the opponent concentrates on the hand that is circling, the bolo puncher will usually sneak in a punch with the opposite hand. When the rival concentrates on the hand that is not moving, the bolo puncher will usually follow through with a full punch."

You know the one Ali and Ray Leonard used to do.

The bolo punch video says nothing of the sort and describes the Bolo punch as this:

"a cross between an uppercut and a softball pitchers underhanded delivery".

Which is why I said we talking about two different punches. What do you mean about the forum name.

Enlarge the image. Read what was written there. Its say's "BOLO PUNCH" and its 1939. So?

We can name Gavilan's "Cuban Bolo punch" or something. "Bolo Punch" was started by Ceferino Garcia.

From Wikipedia: Ceferino Garcia (August 26, 1906 — January 1, 1981) was a champion boxer born in Naval, Biliran, Philippines. His number of victories are the most ever achieved by a Philippine boxer. He's also the only boxer from the Philippines ever to become world champion at middleweight. He was managed, during the final years of his career by George Parnassus. Ceferino Garcia is commonly referred to as the inventor of the bolo punch. Though a Filipino boxer named Macario Flores was reported to be using the punch in 1924.

It seems that Macario Flores might have been the true originator of the bolo punch. I always took it for granted that Kid Gavilan was the inventor of the punch, since he was so famous for using it and is commonly credited for its invention. "The Cuban Hawk" was a very popular and flashy fighter in his day. He'll probably always be associated with the bolo punch...and with its invention.
