nope...bolo punch was derived from a common tactic from filipino martial arts when wielding 2 bolos and either twirling 1 or tapping the 2 together to make noise to distract the opponent's rythm.

Hold up Stop the thread for a minute...........

          Start at 30 seconds.

The narrator describes the bolo punch as "a cross between an uppercut and a softball pitchers underhanded delivery".

The bolo punch described on the wiki page. Is the punch that Sugar Ray Leonard use to do.

"Its most important aspect is a circular motion performed with one arm to distract an opponent, causing the opponent to either take his eyes off the attacker's other arm or actually focus on the fighter's circling arm. When the opponent concentrates on the hand that is circling, the bolo puncher will usually sneak in a punch with the opposite hand. When the rival concentrates on the hand that is not moving, the bolo puncher will usually follow through with a full punch."

We talking about two different punches.

no....technique is spot on as he described...but the full tactic involved the use of 2 weapons. that technique could not have been invented simply from the act of chopping down trees with 1 bolo.

Ring Magazine in 1939 mentioned that it's the BOLO Punch by Ceferino Garcia

Shade already mentioned that Gavilan's career started in 1943.

This is just to sort some misunderstanding.

Read my post with the video. I think we are talking about two different punches. Or wiki just messed up.
