If i had a son i would want him to fight like Arturo Gatti or Margarito: throw punches, be a walking punching bag til you opponent gets tired in the process and then beat the **** out of him.

Seriously, i already prefer appreciate boxers like Floyd or Malignaggi but i think i would teach him how to be an agressive boxer, for example not fight like Dirrell. To be a pure boxer and backing up the whole fight, gives a sense of confidence to the opponent and a better chance to get robbed by judges who don't know **** about boxing. In my last fight i understood it, threw a thousand punches until i got DQ'd for hitting behind the head.
I was throwing more but to be honest we landed the same amount of punches. I learnt later that i was WAY ahead in the judges scorecard.
Amateur boxing= throw as much as you can, and find a way to keep it technical like Paul Williams or a Juan DIaz would.

The best thing is to be skilled enough to not get hit, but offensive minded to score. A prime Toney is a good example of what i'd like to do with my son.
        A great jab+ head movements+ feints+ off/def footwork= the most important things in boxing.
        This.

I mean if there's a kid that is short, stocky with no speed, guess what, he's not going to be a slick fighter.

You have to have the tools first in order to teach what is best for him.

If you have a strong puncher with a straight style, then that's what you are going to get.

What I'm saying is, you need to take the strengths of a young boxer and make those better, not form him into what YOU want him to be because he may not have the skills to pull that off.
Wow who said anything about teaching a kid how to fight like Mayweather? Mayweather is not the only defensive fighter who ever boxed. Although he's up there as one of the ideal defensive fighters. If you want to talk about defense Mayweather comes up but there are a lot of other good defensive fighters in the history of boxing.

He may not have the skills to pull it off? Then what are you there for if you will not help him obtain those skills? You're there to look cute and say he's good because of you? No.

You think Jones was born with that style he has? Do you know what Jones father put him through? He taught him those skills he has. Floyd? he was just born like that? No, he was taught those skills by his father as a young kid. There is no such thing as being born as a pure boxer. You have to be surrounded by boxing at all times. You gotta grow up with your dad in the gym.

It definitely wouldn't be Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones or someone that has a God given skill like they do.

My point is that to try and emulate what Mayweather does in the ring is sucide unless you possess the speed and skill he does.

I would say watch someone like DLH or Finito lopez, two fighters that had incredible fundamentals.

Again though, I wouldn't want him to fight like anyone else, I would want a proper trainer to evaluate what his abilities are and get the best out of him. Whether it be a boxer, boxer/puncher, brawler etc.....

He would basically have my style.

Southpaw whether he likes it or not. Then train up the orthodox, so he can switch hit. Train both sides equally. Then make each side a different style. Ortho being more traditional boxing, boxing 101 type **** but slightly more power oriented. Southpaw would be more slick, speed based.

Overall I would stress pin point accuracy and timing. Similar to Hozumi Hasegawa. Make him a surgeon in the ring. Everything landing on the button, even when it is supposed to be a mis-hit.

Then when i'm not his trainer anymore. He can do whatever the **** he wants but his foundation would be solid as a rock, much more solid than the other prospects.

Not all brawlers go head 1st and swing away. Many good fighters have been able to adapt both and use each style wisely when needed. One doesn't have to supersede the other. It'd be good to have both depending on what style you're facing.

You are confusing "skills" with what I'm referring to as natural skills, born skills.

I can teach my son (if I had one I don't) to fight as fast as Mayweather who I just used as an example. If he doesn't have the natural speed Mayweather does, he will never fight like him.

Sorry but not everyone can be Mayweather, Sweat Pea or Roy Jones Jr. that's why there is only one of those guys, they are unique.

I firmly believe that speed, power and chin are 3 things that you either have or don't. You can make a fighter faster and hit harder but to be born with let's say the speed of a Macho Camacho or power of Mike Tyson, that's something you can't "teach".

I can hope my son fights like anyone I want but reality is, if he doesn't have the natural skills/abilities, it's not going to happen.

I'd want him to fight like Mayweather. I'm not a huge fan of Floyd's style, but I don't care how exciting my son's fights would be. I just wouldn't want him to get hurt too bad. If he fought amateur, I wouldn't really care too much about how he fought. If he was pro I don't think I could watch.

whichever comes natural to him. But I wouldn't want my son to be no ***** and have some actual balls
