-Shane has been the #1 rated pound for pound fighter before, and has the potential to do so again in beating Floyd. In fact, he is already the top rated welterweight there is, and by defeating Floyd there would be no question that he would be the #1 pound for pound in unifying the titles at 147 (he will own all of them except for Manny Pacquiao's, and we all know Manny doesn't have the balls to face Shane, even at 140 where he would be frail and drained!)

-Shane has fought the better competition his entire career. Who did Shane Mosley ever cherry pick in his title defences? When did Shane ever fight an old, past their prime fighter in a so called "big fight"? I can name several of these for Floyd.

-Shane is a power puncher. He knocks mother****ers OUT. Floyd hasn't knocked anyone out in what, 3 years? And it wasn't even a knockout, it was a ref stoppage. Floyd has no power at 147. He might have at 135, but that isn't the case. Floyd cannot hurt Shane. It's not going to happen. Advantage Shane.

-Shane is fast and puts combinations together. Yes he is slower than he used to be, but who isn't at nearly 40 years old? He is still much faster than anyone Floyd has fought in years. Is Floyd faster? Yes, but not by much.

        And finally:

I believe Shane will knock Mayweather out. In fact, I am putting 500 large on him to win by KO. The reason is simple: Shane is, in my opinion, the ONLY person at 147 that is currently capable of defeating Mayweather. He is simply too fast, can take insane amounts of damage, and too determined to let this be his retirement fight. Think about it: Shane wins, is #1 P4P again, is the only person to beat Mayweather, and has nothing left to prove except against Pacquiao, and sorry Pacman I like you as a fighter but you would get annihilated by Mosley.

        Thoughts?

That's debatable since the word is he was trying desperately to get to 44.....he himself said he was 45 the night before, but woke up at 46.....he went for a run befoe the weigh in to try to "at least get to 45"

The man got to 46 after a 2 yr layoff....he was clearly more dried out for the JMM weigh in than he has ever been for any previous fight.

I didn't neglect anything in my post. To begin with Floyd didn't chase Shane to the higher weights. Shane is 6 years older than Floyd and moved up because for one his body had outgrown the 135 division and secondly to pursue bigger, more lucrative fights (you're right, he moved up to fight De La Hoya to make that $$$). Mosley was willing to fight Mayweather right before he left 135 for 147 while Floyd was still at 130. The fight was offered to Floyd but he didn't want to move up at the time (the fight would have occurred at 135 so Floyd would of had to move up from 130) so Mosley made the jump to 147 and later Floyd followed Shane to the higher weight classes. Mayweather then started to clamor for a fight with Mosley after Shane became the pound for pound king after he defeated De La Hoya. Additionally, Floyd didn't start calling out De La Hoya until after Mosley had already defeated him for the first time in June of 2000 (Floyd was still fighting at 130 lbs in 2000).

Floyd was not the underdog vs Corrales. Of course some sports writers chose Corrales to win but Mayweather was the betting favorite for the fight. Corrales was however a risk for Floyd and one of the few fighters he's ever fought who could legitimately be considered to be a real threat to him (all of these fights occurred in the lower weight classes). He destroyed Corrales and passed the test with flying colors but how long ago was this? This fight was in January of 2001. Who has Floyd fought since then that was a young, in his prime fighter who held physical advantages over him (taller/longer reach/avoided fighter)? Mosley was once a young unbeaten, pound for pound king like Mayweather and he's fought several fighters (even at an advanced age for example fighting Cotto at the age of 36 when Miguel was 27) that had major physical advantages (Vernon Forest) over him or who were avoided (Winky Wright twice at 154 lbs) by other elite fighters. Mosley is the biggest name on Vernon Forrest's resume and that's because he was the only elite fighter at the time who had the courage to fight him. Like I said in my previous post, Paul Williams is today's Vernon Forest (both extremely tall/lanky, excellent boxers) and we'll see if Mayweather has the heart to fight someone like this. The last time he fought someone like this (Corrales) he was a young upcoming fighter himself who had to take risks to make a name for himself. Now that he has the fame Floyd hasn't shown the desire to take the same risks that Mosley did in his career. Floyd is still a great fighter but you can't call yourself the best ever until you challenge and beat someone who is a true threat, a true test of your skill. The all-time greats of the past did this and if Floyd truly wants to be regarded as the best ever (right now at best one can regard him as perhaps the most talented or gifted boxer ever) he'll have to do it as well. You don't become an ATG by doing the ordinary. You do it by challenging yourself and doing the extraordinary.

And to close do you really believe that Paul Williams would weigh 165 lbs on fight night after rehydrating for a fight at 147? That would be almost 20 lbs. Williams is a prime fighter who stays in great shape. I highly doubt he'd gain much more than 10 lbs if that (at weigh-ins for fights at 154 and 160 he has actually been lighter than the limit in the past and hasn't gained much weight on fight night). Regardless of this the real reason people avoid him is because of the physical advantages (height/reach/activity level) he brings to the table. To reiterate my earlier post we know that a young, unbeaten, pound for pound king in Shane Mosley was willing to take a challenge like this in a fighter who held the same kind of physical advantages over him (Vernon Forrest). Mosley was also willing to fight another highly avoided fighter who was known for making his opponents look bad in Winky Wright. He has also been willing to fight boxers who were considered to be the best even as he has gotten older (Margarito, Cotto). The Vernon Forrest for Floyd exists in Paul Williams. If he's truly the best ever as he likes to claim he'll fight him soon and let his ATG skills carry him to the victory.

                  • There's nothing wrong with getting beaten up a bit in sparring, after all he's meant to be working on his weak points.
