Originally posted by StickmanI think there were several factors that contributed to Tszyu not answering the bell, not the least among them being a lack of any friendly faces in the crowd. He was nearly boooo'd out of the arena when he walked to the ring. That can't make a guy feel good when he's about to start a 12 round war. Knowing how the crowd felt, and knowing how the judges were likely to score, you can't really blame the guy for not coming out. He knew he wasn't going to get a chance to land his big right, and he thought (as I did) that he was way behind on the cards.
I was still shocked that a fighter who normally shows as much heart as Tszyu does allowed his corner to call the fight...he was losing, yeah but his heart wasn't in it...the crowd probably didn't help but he agreed to this fight and should have known that the crowd was largely going to favour Hatton. The crowd is no excuse to just give up..he only had three minutes to go. Some fighters get knocked down ten times in one round and keep on fighting, or have multiple painful injuries (broken hands, jaws, etc) and still fight...I think there are very few champs who, even if they were losing, would allow their corner to stop the fight...Tszyu looked relieved when his corner did so...Tszyu is great fighter but his age showed in that fight and in his lack of desire to answer the final bell...My bet is that he retires or maybe takes one more big money fight but not against Hatton...Hatton walked through Tszyu's punches...a lot of people had questioned Hatton's chin as well and it looked pretty sturdy in this fight...even his knockdown when he was facing McGee looked like a flash knockdown since he got up immediately and looked fine...I think too many people think a white guys can't take a punch (JK!!!!)...Jokes aside Hatton did great and Tszyu should really consider retirementComment

Wouldn't surprise me if Kostya retired permanently, either. Hatton is a tough customer, and I'm not sure Tszyu would fare any better in a rematch. He might be able to learn something from this fight that would make the difference in a rematch, but then again, maybe not. Personally, if I were Kostya Tszyu, I'd retire and be done....maybe do a little commentating (his english is pretty good for a Russian), some public appearances, and just spend time with my wife and kiddies. Hell, he doesn't need the money anymore, and if he stops fighting now, before he takes some big beatings, he'll be able to grow old with some brains left in his skull, unlike some other fighters who tend to continue until they can't complete a sentence.Comment

First off, much repect to Ricky Hatton. I was one of the many doubters on this site, not to mention Kostya is one of my two favorite active fighters.
That being said I do have a weird feeling about what went down. Hatton had beaten him no doubt about it, but he wasn't so hurt to quit with 3 minutes left I don't think. Maybe the Tszyu camp had a ****load of money on the fight not going the distance. I never thought in a million years this fight would go 12. I even risked all my money in a post on Friday saying I'll give 4-1 on to anyone who thinks it will go 12.
Why were the announcers all on Hatton's nuts? Everything he did they commended and if Tszyu landed a shot they barely muttered a word about it. Also, what's with the hugs and pictures and talking to the crowd after the fight. That's totally unlike anything I've ever seen. To respect a guy is one thing, but to lick his balls like Tszyu did I just don't get.
Lastly, when was the last time a fighter was interview after a close fight and they say "I felt like I was down by 3-4 rounds"! Who the **** says that! Even people dominated always say they felt like they one the fight.
Ricky is the real deal, although I think he gets away with holding too much in Manchester. I do think he would beat almost all of the 140 pounders fairly easily with the exception of Cotto. If Mayweather beats my boy Gatti, I hope Ricky whacks that ****y ****er. Hatton would swarm Mayweather and piss him off to the point he may wanna quit also.
Cong**** to all the Brits on the site, your boy came through. He's a classy kid and although I'm American, I love the way he fights for his people.....much respect.Comment

It is kind of weird considering there was only 3 minutes left but who know's what goes on in a mans mind after 11 rounds of war?
You would have thought he'd just come out a try and knock Ricky out though?
I'm sure the hoopla at the end was TV influenced as Sky Sports don't get too many fights that big so probably wanted to take advantage... TV Contracts + Sports unfortunately = ****e!
What was Tszyu's state after the fight? Did he need any medical attention? How much was he hurting?Comment

he hasa broken nose and jaw acocridng to sky news and has been pissing blood for 48 hrs according to the sun newspaper but is cleared of any serious injury thanksfully.
cheers to those senible posters above giving hatotn credit, both men are class acts both in the ring and out of it.Comment

this years sucks for me, who ever wants to make some money bet on the other guy I pick to win, it seems like every fighter I am rooting for looses, I dont think it was fixed but Tzsyu should have gone all the way, hatton get props but that one low blow by him was un called for and he was holding Kostya like crazy, kinda like a yo-yo at times, hold his arm, throws him out while holding him and then hitting himComment
