Couldn't they find anyone better for Chris John to fight?

John is making a title defense against this guy who is on a win streak against soft opposition mostly and has 38 wins in 42 fights but with only 1 ko.
    http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hum...7485&cat=boxer

Was this guy a mando? if so, shame on the WBA for letting him get a shot when this is clearly a style mismatch as he has no power to hurt John and unless he is another JMM does not have a shot at out boxing him.

Did I just boxrec it and just come to natural conclusions to fill in the rest of my info? yes, but I think its a fair enough conclusion. The guy has no wins against any recognizable opponents, most of his wins are against fighters have poor records, and with his 1ko and 38 wins it fair to assume he has no pop, so it seems like cherrypicked opposition of John or like the WBA just nominated him for whatever reason.

The point is John is the #1 FW in the world and should have been able to find a better opponent to make a defense against.

Not a lot to do at 126 for John atm. Caballero, Lopez, Concepcion, and Gamboa have business to attend to for now, but hopefully he'll face one or more of these guys later. I've got no problem with John tuning up against this guy for now.

That's what we have been asking of Chris John for the past 4 years ever since he beat JM Marquez, outside of the Rocky Juarez fights perhaps. He has to step up in competition before he has seen his best days.

LOL, 1 KO IN 38 WINS, I think we can now find a new P4P king for the lightest puncher. Sorry Paulie, you've been relegate to number 2

I mean 1ko in 38 wins with no notable wins?....couldn't they have found someone with just a little pop who has beaten some ok opposition.

Even if some guys are tied up, I find it hard to believe they couldn't have found a better FW for him to fight who wanted a title shot.

John has stepped up competition ever since he fought Enoki, but this seems to be a step backwards.

As I said, outside of Rocky Juarez, but then again Juarez hasn't proven to be top of the division either. With the way things are going he'll forever be known as the boxer who once upset Marquez and nothing else. His title reign has been rather forgettable.

I like John and think he is very skilled but that was a hometown decision.

JMM clearly won that fight and had John very confused because he had never been in with anyone anywhere near the level of skill and countering ability of JMM.

I saw the fight also, didn't score it but I thought it was close enough. Marquez had a few points deducted which may have made the difference. Either way, even if he holds a controversial win over Marquez, he's far from being anywhere near as good as Marquez. Marquez picked himself off the "canvas" and went onto have many great fights with great opponents, John's best opponent since then has been Marquez "left-over" Juarez. He hasn't established his legacy.
