It's close between the USA and Mexico. Both put out great boxers.
What country produces the best boxers?

USA and Mexico seem to be #1 and #2, at least according to the sanctioning bodies and the always-reliable pound for pound rankings on-line (which are more biased??? Tough call....) USA dominates from 147 up, Mexico is the king in most every division below welterweightComment

I think that United States probably gets my overall nod, but Mexico is pretty much a clean sweep at the lower divisions. When it comes to the lighter guys Mexico pretty much just has a strangle hold on the divisions. Especially with the holy trinity of featherweights (or former featherweights) Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Juan Manuel Marquez.Comment

Originally posted by NiGe2011I realize that they are all part of the UK, I just wanted to be a little more specific with it, I mean technically Puerto Rico is part of the US, but putting them together would not be in the spirit of the thread. Thus, why I did not put Harrison under England, I realized he was from Scotland, thus not England, which was part of the UK. At the time, what I wanted to do was highlight England though. Upon learning that Calzaghe was actually from Wales though I changed it to the UK, so as to continue in the spirit of the question. So allow me to make this clear-- geographically I was correct, I just thought was unclear on where Calzaghe was from. OK, back to the actual flow of the thread.
And apparently Puerto Ricans want it to remain that way. Peurto Rico has voted to become a state in the United States before and they always vote NO.
The difference is more like Scotland is Illinois and England is California and Wales is Massachusets and Northern Ireland is Minnesota. They are different states part of the same country. Peurto Rico is not a state as part of the United States.Last edited by The Troll; 06-03-2005, 10:12 PM.Comment

No country comes close to USA, not even Mexico in lighter weights. I would put Mexico at #2 for quantily, and Puerto Rico at #3 for quailty.Comment

Originally posted by McKayThe difference between Peurto Rico and the United States is not the same as the difference between England and Northern Ireland. I dont think Peurto Ricans carry American passports and are considered part of part of the nationality of American. Peurto Rico is technically a commonwealth of the United States. There is no Peurto Represenatives for instance in the United States Legistlator. They are two different countries.
Colombia and Argentina actually have their fair-share of decent fighters but they are not countries that you typically think about when you are listing the big boxing countries. Just an interesting little aside there. Does anybody know of any prominant fighters from the Dominican Republic aside from Little Tyson?Comment
