Is Ultimate Fighting Champioship the future of Fighting

In todays day and age people get tired of the same thing. Pay 50 bucks for a Boxing match and they get 4 undercard bouts and a 5 min main event. It seems that the ring entrances take longer then the fight does. I blame Mike Tyson for making the knockout famous. Its not a bad thing but i miss the day when fighters would rumble for 10-15 rounds.
But lately people have started to take notice of the UFC organization. Especially after Spike TV did a wonderful job on their special on UFC. I have been a UFC fan since UFC 1, back in the gracie vs shamrock days. UFC is now at UFC 53, year 12 not bad. So my question is will UFC replace boxing and its ever declining ratings.

UFC has some short matches, too. Whenever you have shoot fighting, and not scripted WWE-style matches, you will have quick knockouts sometimes. Sometimes you'll have no contests. Sometimes the fight will be boring. That's what comes with unscripted competition.

Vince McMahon tried to buy UFC a few years back, thinking it was more competition to WWF than WCW was.

    I don't think it's a threat to boxing, though.

Personally, i find UFC and all MMA very boring due to long periods of both fighters seemingly layig on the floor doing very little. I'm frequently made aware of how much skill and training it takes to fight in MMA, but to be honest it doesnt LOOK that good, and the fights arent that entertaining. The fights definately dont give me the same rush as boxing, and i think thats the reason why it will never replace boxing.

As well as this, the fact that the big MMA organisations such as Pride, UFC, K-1 etc dont co-operate with each other means that there are a mulitiude of 'real' champions who will never fight, eg. light h/w Pride champion Wanderlei Silva and the UFC champ Chuck liddel. Whereas in boxing this fight would eventually happen, causing a massive ppv show where everyone gets wealthy, this fight will never happen in mma, severely harming both the credibilaty of the champions and their money making potential.

I dont think ur arguement about people getting bored of boxing because there are too many knockouts is really a very convincing one. There have always been knockouts, and infact many see them as the sign of a good fight (especially the non-boxing public).

I've watched both k-1 and UFC when I can't find any boxing on but the thing I hate about UFC is; that you can hit a guy when he's down. That to me is barbaric; if the referee wasn't there in the ring the ufc fighters would beat eachother to death.

I like the UFC but I'd take a good boxing match over a good UFC match anyday. There's a UFC card this Saturday if I'm not mistaken but I'll be watching the Tszyu/Hatton fight.

If you aren't into any martial arts or wrestling then MMA isn't going to appeal. Personally I find it way more exciting and attractive to watch than boxing right now. Aside from a couple of boxers, I don't go out of my way to really follow anyone. I'll check someone out if I hear good things about them but UFC and Pride shows never fail to entertain. MMA definately has a huge future but as long as they realise their main cross over audience is from pro wrestling and not boxing. Boxing people need to open their eyes and stop being so ignorant to a new sport that has a small injury and death rate than boxing does.

Ditto! I got a UFC video a couple years ago, 'cause I was training with a kickboxer. I watched it once!

I don't think that UFC is as exciting as boxing, except for the shock of basically seeing a streetfight on T.V. In ufc, the fight is almost over once one of them get hit with a clean punch, because they're all so strong. Hell, I think Jack Dempsey had better gloves than I've seen on some of these guys. And some of you guys are worried about rabbit punching from Valuev? Some of the fights are OK, but they spend way too much time hugging, afraid of being hit. Almost as bad as watching Ruiz fight lol
