Double Standard with hitting while an opponent is down.

exactly.....sometimes it is very blatant.......usually if it';s duriong a barrage of punches and the guy is falling all over the ropes it's ok..........but when you hit a guy he slips....you look over him for a second or 2 then unload that is grounds for a DQ.........Comment

there is no double standard.I've seen many people get away with it IN FRONT of the referee, Pacquiao, Margarito and Mayweather are some of them. If you are going to DQ someone for doing it, then everyone who does it should be DQ'd. Why is it that some people get a pass and other don't though? For the record, I don't agree with it and DO think Abraham should've been DQ'd, I was rooting for him to win. I'm just saying.. you gonna make a big deal of it when someone else does it, it's bull****.
AA is a german star and got DQed.
RJJ is an american superstar and got DQed.Comment

Jones DQ was as warranted as Abrahams.. Yeah he went down from a punch but he was down on his knee already and got hit twice again.

The pac shot was definetely a foul. It wasn't even mentioned by Cortez so I wonder what would have happened had JMM stayed down.
Some other examples here:
1: Cantatore-Jensen
This was for the EBU cruiserweight title. Jensen was challenging cantatore on his hometurf in Italy and surprisingly got away with this (0.50):

2: Soto-Lorenzo.
Referee Cortez took a terrific beating in the media following this DQ:

3: Kristjansen-Khan
Khan the hometown favourite gets away with hitting his opponent despite him being down (5.00)

You pretty much summed it up right there. Good job!Hitting a guy when he's down is a very common foul in boxing. Usually refs don't do anything, or just give a warning. Occasionally they take a point away.
Usually the only time a fighter is DQ'd or it ends in a no-contest is when the guy who gets hit can't or won't go on.
I'm not overly critical of Abraham for what he did. He was frustrated and lost his composure and ****ed up. It happens. Lennox Lewis hit Mike Acey three times when he was down and Acey got up. All Lewis got was a warning. Terry Norris hit Joe Walker when he was down and Walker couldn't continue, so Norris got DQ'd. Norris did it against Leonard and got a warning. He did it to Waters and got a point deducted.
If Dirrell didn't get so ****ed up by that punch (or didn't act, depending on your viewpoint), it would've just been one of many cases where a guy hit a downed opponent and got a warning or point deduction.

Good post. But how fair is it? Imagine Dirrell continuing on hurt and ending up being KOed in result of it. How good of a message would that pass? Wouldn't Abraham try that again? Watching it for the 3rd time i really think Dirrell was hurt. At first i thought he was reaching with his glove to check his nose for blood but he wasn't he reached his head and immediately fell down. I hope he's ok. In Vegas Abraham would be a suspended fighter right now.Hitting a guy when he's down is a very common foul in boxing. Usually refs don't do anything, or just give a warning.
