    Seriously....How good is Marcos Maidana?

I have only seen the fight with Ortiz and im curious to know what people have to say about him. He did lose to Kotelnik but I hear that was a very close fight and it was in Germany aswell so maybe Kotelnik got the decision because of that? I dont know I need to see the fight to judge. Right now Maidana is the WBA interim JWW champion and should get a title fight with Amir Khan soon enough. But really how good is he? I mean he knocked out Cayo but he was relatively untested and I heard he gave Maidana problems, And Ortiz was whooping his ass before the cut.

Seriously how good is he and do you think he will beat Khan? It's a fight I really want to see just to judge if Khan can beat a puncher and how good Maidana really is. Is he just a ****er or is there more to him than that?

I've seen him twice. Once against Victor Ortiz and the his last performance. I'll put it this way, he's got my attention. As far as a "boxer" i don't think he's superior. But he's a brawling animal with heavy heavy hands. I think he's refusing to take the position of being a stepping stone. So he's gonna fight to the death. He stopped two "up and comers" with KOs...one with a body shot.

Personally, i'm willing to watch his fights. He's aiite, he's aiite. He knocks people out, that's always good.

He;s definetly a very good puncher, And seems to be very determined in his fights. But im curious has anyone seen his fight with Kotelnik and do you think Khan can beat him?

People told me Cayo was outboxing Maidana but wanting to fight too much and that's why he lost, im not sure because I didnt see it. Khan might make the same mistake and I dont trust his chin against someone like Maidana

I have to admit he's better than I thought after the ortiz ko. I haven't yet jumped on the band wagon, but im becoming a fan. His offense is actually more sophisticated than he is given credit for. I think he would get found out against bradley or alexander becuase those guys are complete fighters with tons of speed...but amir khan is a different story.

Hopefully both guys keep winning and they fight at the end of the year, or start of 2011 because that would be exciting. Its a cross-roads fight for both guys, if Khan wins it shows that he is ready for anyone and can handle a puncher, if Maidana wins it shows that he can handle an elite boxer with speed. Either way it elevates the winner, but will only happen when freddie roach gives it the ok, my hunch is that he wants khan to spend more time sparring and learning how to nulify pressure fighters, becuase he has not learnt to do that yet. Maidana isn't really gonna get any better thus why he is ready now and wants it now whilst he is hot.

Ive seen his fight with kotelnik, it was a tough fight for both guys. Kotelnik took a lot of punches on the gloves with his good defense was never hurt or staggered. The occasional head shot or combination got through for maidana, but his best work was to the body. Kotelnik fought in spurts, and landed some nice flashy combinations between maidana's superior work rate...thus why it was hard to score. Honestly could have gone either way.

Good points. I will definetly watch this fight and the Cayo one soon

I think Kotelnik was pretty underrated, But Khan's style was a nightmare for him. He can still be a player at 140 imo

Maidana is quite interesting. His boxing skills are not classic and are lacking but he seems to be able to force boxers out of their groove and fight his fight. People have said Khan won't make that mistake but I don't think people realise fighting him is as easy as they think. Khan is a good boxer but his exceptional hand speed makes him look better than he really is skills wise. When he is throwing his fast fluries he does not cover up well and his head and upper body movement is static and he is not elusive. His inside fighting game is woeful and lacking .But the opponent has to be good to get past the hand speed to exploit his weaknesses and despite being very fast with reasonable pop I don't think Khan has enough to keep Maidana at bay and I see him stalking him down and eventually unloading and taking him out.
The fight either ends with a points win fot Khan or he gets KOd. Maidana is not that good but he keeps on going and hits hard. He has the ability to test a fighter and show the world what they are made of. So far Khan has not had that kind of fight but after he fights Maidana the world would see if he is show pony or real fighter. If Khan were to win the fight it would do wonders for his career but if he were to get KOd again it would be difficult to recover.
My guess is Maidana will never get to fight Khan. GBP and Roach clearly don't want Khan to fight him and if Maidana makes it through the next 2 fights unbeaten I am sure they will find another way out.

I agree with most of your points, apart from the fact that I think khan can tko maidana. I haven't seen the fight from the weekend yet, but I dont' believe he has the greatest chin, he is tough and lots of heart. But I think khan's speed and accuracy could get him out of there. Its possible. I think people are underestimating how much taller and longer khan is than maidana. Khan has big physical advantages

Khan does have the speed and power to KO Maidana but his KOs come when he throws bunches of punches not single shot power. I know he KOd Salita with a left hook but Salita is not up to much IMO. I just see Khan being very wary of Maidana's power and electing to hit and move and not commiting enough to stay in the pocket at go for it. I can see Khan dropping Maidana but he gets up off the floor . In order to KO Maidana I see Khan having to take big risks and maybe getting KOd himself and I just don't see Roach having that in his fight plan. Roach will want Khan to hit and run for the early rounds trying to cut Maidana up only late in the fight depending on Maidana's stamina would roach risk stepping up the attack.

Good enough to beat anyone at 140 or at the very least make it a war and give all those guys problems, simple as that. Maidana is a crude fighter and although he is not a flashy guy he packs in power and toughness, he's the epitome of a crude power puncher, there really is no other words to describe him, he is what you see. He's defense is a bit underrated, he has a tight guard when he's not punching and he rolls punches very well, he gets hit but he's got a pretty solid chin, plus that will to continue as it was shown against Ortiz.

Sure, guys like Alexander, Bradley & Khan have those flashy skills to make them favorites against crude guys like Maidana, but they don't have the same kind of pop he does, Maidana can finish a fight with two solid punches that connect while the other guys have to fight you to a decision, Maidana will always have that edge to end the fight early.
